Spurs fans lay in to Lloris after ill-tempered Bournemouth defeat

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur lost ground in the race to qualify for the Champions League on Saturday, as they lost 1-0 to AFC Bournemouth.

And fans were left disappointed with the performance of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at the Vitality Stadium.

Spurs went down to 10 men in the first half, as Heung-Min Son lashed out at Jefferson Lerma by pushing him to the ground and was shown a red card.

Juan Foyth was introduced as a half-time substitute and was dismissed just minutes after coming on, reducing Tottenham to nine men.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side did their best to earn a hard-fought point in the second half but their resistance was ultimately broken in injury time, as Nathan Ake headed home from a corner.

Fans, though, were disappointed with the performance of their captain, first for seemingly abdicating his responsibility as a skipper, as his team-mates lost their heads, and then failing to save Ake’s header.

The France international was left rooted to his line as the Dutchman saw the net ripple.

Leeds United: Ivan Cavaleiro should be of interest again

Leeds United should take full advantage of Wolves’ apparent summer clear-out and swoop in for Ivan Cavaleiro who’ll wow Elland Road with his creativity no matter which division they’re in.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that the big wigs at Wolves are aiming for a summer spending spree to break into the top six next season. To that end, they’re targeting Andre Silva and Morgan Sanson according to the report so Cavaleiro might feel surplus to requirements.

Leeds will be looking to improve their forward line in the summer to either earn promotion or stay in the Premier League. After all, the Sun claimed back in January they were targeting the Wolves man to boost their quality in the final third.

Undoubtedly, it’d be a great signing.

Indeed, he’s made 23 appearances in the Premier League this season and has undoubtedly had a major impact on them sitting seventh. It’s been an incredible season, and if anyone knows how to turn a Championship team into a solid Premier League side, it’s him and his Wolves teammates.

Cavaleiro’s scored nine goals and 12 assists in all competitions, and the 25-year-old has been powerful and has caused problems for every team he’s faced. The Portuguese winger would have Elland Road in awe at his direct playing style.

He’s the type of player Leeds need to keep the fans excited if they don’t go up this season, and he’d have the confidence to attack superior teams if they did go up. Convince him to leave Wolves, and they’ve got one impressive player on their hands.

West Ham United: Samir Nasri rejecting contract excellent news

Let’s face it; Samir Nasri has been a failed project for West Ham United these last five months or so.

Manuel Pellegrini took a chance on one of his former players and it simply backfired as he was rather useless when it came down to business.

Sure, there were elements of excitement when he was on the pitch, however, he did not offer those at the London Stadium too much to shout about.

The former France international midfielder showed glimpses of the quality that he possesses, however, it was just that; glimpses. To be honest, what more could be expected of the 31-year-old considering he had been out of football for 18 months because of a drug ban (Guardian).

Injuries also continued to plague the former Manchester City and Arsenal playmaker, limiting him to just five matches in the Premier League and becoming a rather irrelevant figure for the club as the season reached its conclusion.

However, it looked as though he may have done enough to convince the Hammers to give him a pay-as-you-play deal on significantly reduced terms from his present £75,000-a-week deal (Football Insider).

But, according to a report by Football Insider, it appears Nasri has decided to turn that down as he feels he can get better terms elsewhere.

Rejection can always be hard, however, West Ham must look at this as a blessing in disguise!

Sure, offering a player pay-as-you-play terms can have their benefits, as it could make him even more determined to do well and prove that he has what it takes to be in the squad on a consistent basis, however, it could also be rather detrimental to the club as a whole.

Say Nasri was to continue to be hampered by injuries, he might not be getting paid, but he has taken up a vital place in the squad list that the Hammers cannot benefit from.

The idea that he believes he can still earn around the same money that he currently on is also rather ludicrous and West Ham would clearly be better off spending that sum of cash on someone who would actually make a difference to the team week in and week out.

West Ham, let him walk this summer.

West Ham fans lavish praise on Fabianski

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United supporters have lavished praise on goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski after an exceptional season at the London Stadium.

The Poland international moved to the club last summer following Swansea City’s relegation; the Hammers paid £7million to secure his signature.

He subsequently played in every single Premier League game of the season, keeping seven clean sheets, and was voted as the Irons’ Hammer of the Year, as well as the Signing of the Season.

Per the Premier League, Fabianski also made the most saves in the top-flight with a total of 148 stops, seven more than Cardiff City’s Neil Etheridge.

And supporters have expressed their admiration for the 34-year-old, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side indebted to the performances of the former Arsenal stopper.

The Hammers ultimately finished 10th in the top-flight, just five points behind seventh-placed Wolves, who qualified for the Europa League.

The Verdict: Would James Rodriguez be a good signing for Liverpool?

[ad_pod ]

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez after it was revealed that Bayern Munich would not be taking up their £37m option to buy.

The Colombian international scored 15 goals and recorded 20 assists in 67 games for the German champions over the course of his two-year loan spell at the Allianz Arena, which is slightly disappointing for a player of his calibre.

Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…

Along with the Reds, Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing him, as are Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

He isn’t the player that we saw light up the 2014 World Cup anymore, but would the 27-year-old be a good signing for Liverpool? Football FanCast’s writers have their say…

Matt Dawson

“Rodriguez is the very definition of an enigma. After that sensational World Cup he had in 2014 he’s never really hit the same heights at either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. On his day he’s a wonderful player but that seems to happen on too rare an occasion. Liverpool could do with someone from a central area to provide them with creativity but I think they’re looking at the wrong player to solve that issue. I imagine he’d cost a significant amount too. As a result, Klopp should stay away.”

Harry Sherlock

“Rodriguez is a bit of a weird one. It didn’t really work out for him at Real Madrid but he did find form at Bayern Munich and has the ability to dazzle in whatever situation he is placed in. However, he’d also swallow up a great deal of wages and would seem to go against the grain of recent Jurgen Klopp signings; he’s 27 and may have already peaked. The Reds would be better off looking for a younger, more promising acquisition, especially given that they have had a great deal of success with quite a static midfield this season.”

Harry Elnaugh

“Liverpool have missed out on Julian Brandt now and are still crying out for that central creator whom they have lacked since Philippe Coutinho left for Barca. Rodriguez has a wand of a left foot to rival Robertson and the front three will love having a class number 10 behind them, pulling the strings again. He’s also extremely versatile and will be useful if Klopp insists on rolling through formations again next term.”

Charlton Injury News: Igor Vetokele’s fitness a concern ahead of Wembley date

[ad_pod ]

Charlton meet Sunderland at Wembley Stadium this weekend where both sides will be playing for promotion to the Championship via the play-off final – in football, the stakes don’t get much higher than this.

The Addicks were cruising in the weeks leading up to their semi-final clash with Doncaster Rovers but Grant McCann’s side ensured the match, which Charlton eventually won on penalties, went right down to the wire.

Lee Bowyer’s men managed to survive that scare but they are far from concern-free with their final and most important game of the season looming.

What’s the news?

Well, according to The Evening Standard, Charlton are sweating over Igor Vetokele’s fitness, with the striker losing his race against time to recover from a thigh injury before Sunday.

The speedster had forged a formidable partnership with top-scorer Lyle Taylor after Karlan Grant departed for Huddersfield in January and had scored twice in the three games prior to his setback.

The 27-year-old has chalked up five goals and five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions this season and offers crucial pace on the counter for Charlton, who could instead be forced to rely on Josh Parker even though he has yet to score for the club since arriving at The Valley in January.

Lionel Messis have been spotted at The Valley, Boundary Park and even in Wales in the video below…

Parker’s time to shine

If there’s ever a time to get your first goal in your new team’s colours, it’s in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium – if Parker nets against the Black Cats, he will go down in history despite a forgettable four months at Charlton so far.

Fortunately, the 27-year-old is blessed with pace and he will run himself into the ground for the team but the Addicks will likely miss the in-form Vetokele regardless.

Bowyer and his staff will be hoping that the Belgian-born Angolan can return to fitness just in time; if not, Parker will be looking to become Charlton’s hero.

"Hallelujah" – Manchester United fans celebrate decision not to pursue promising youngster

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans on Twitter have celebrated the news that the club will not pursue a deal for Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff.

The 21-year old midfielder was rumoured to be a top priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, but Craig Hope from the Daily Mail has now suggested that United do not intend to bid for the Englishman.

Longstaff enjoyed a breakthrough campaign this season, becoming a regular under Rafa Benitez until a knee injury curtailed his promising season in March.

Despite making a total of just nine Premier League appearances thus far in his young career, Longstaff is already being touted as a future England regular and has been compared to Michael Carrick for his ability to control the game from a deep-lying playmaker position.

With Ander Herrera’s departure to PSG, Manchester United are in need of midfield depth and have been linked with the England U21 international.

However, if recent claims are to believed then the Red Devils are still searching for their next centre-midfielder and United fans are overjoyed that Longstaff is not the primary target.

Good to get rid: Aston Villa fans absolutely adore Ross McCormack news

[ad_pod ]

On Monday evening, Aston Villa released a statement on Ross McCormack, which confirmed that the attacker is to leave the club.

And a whole host of Villa fans took to social media in the aftermath of the announcement to reveal their delight.

The 32-year-old joined Villa from Fulham in August 2016 but managed just three goals in 24 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He has not actually turned out for AVFC since September 2017, representing Central Coast Mariners and Motherwell on loan during the 2018-19 campaign.

McCormack still had 12 months left to run on his contract at Villa Park. However, is now being released and will have to seek pastures new ahead of the new season.

To be honest, both the club and the player will be keen to move on as quickly as possible.

The Villa fans, as expected, are delighted with the update and a selection of their reaction on social media can be seen below:

West Ham close in on £24m Fornals deal

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United are closing in on the £24m signing of Pablo Fornals from Villarreal, Football FanCast can confirm.

The Hammers have thus far signed two goalkeepers in this transfer window, Roberto and David Martin, but are now poised to bring in their first outfield signing of the summer.

Multiple sources have claimed that a deal to secure the attacking midfielder’s signature has accelerated over the past 24 hours and that the club are now confident of announcing the transfer in the next few days.

And Football FanCast can confirm that a deal has been struck between the two clubs, which will see the Hammers pay £24m for the 23-year-old, a player for whom Manuel Pellegrini has explicitly asked.

Co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are determined to deliver the manager the targets that he has requested and a move for Fornals is a key part of that strategy.

A full Spain international who has won two caps for his country, he scored five goals and registered six assists in all competitions in 2018/19.

A bid for Celta Vigo’s Stanislav Lobotka, a deeper-lying midfielder, had been mooted but the Irons cooled that interest after the cost spiralled and they discovered that they would not be able to sign both the Slovakia international and his team-mate, Maxi Gomez, for under £60m.

West Ham’s Director of Football, Mario Husillos, has driven the signing of Fornals, and there is a confidence at this stage that the deal is all but done.

He has yet to sign his contract but sources expect that to be a formality. It would be a surprise were the move to fall through at this stage.

It remains to be seen how the Hammers will approach the remainder of their summer business but their interest in Gomez remains strong and the club would also like to acquire a defender.

Along with Gomez, the club have scouted Salomon Rondon at West Bromwich Albion – he spent the season on loan at Newcastle United – and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Planning ahead: Liverpool are ensuring they’ll have a bright future with shrewd moves

[ad_pod ]

As seen in the print version of Jornal de Notícias (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are set to compete with Barcelona and Braga for the signature of Paris FC striker Silas Wamangituka.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Reds have been courting the teenage forward over the past few months according to the second paragraph of Sport Witness’s article.

It is believed that the 19-year-old has a market value of €3m (£2.7m) but his club Paris FC are ‘pretty excited’ with his form and feel they can get more money for their talented youngster.

Braga and Club Brugge have already offered €4m and €5m respectively for the striker’s services, but both offers have been rejected by the Ligue 2 side.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

Wamangituka scored 11 goals and recorded two assists in 32 league appearances for Paris FC last term.

Liverpool trying to become a sustainable club

Like a real top club should, the Champions League winners are using their reputation to lure some of Europe’s most promising youngsters to the club so they can ensure a sustainable future for themselves.

They have already taken a dip into one of Europe’s best academies and cherry-picked a youngster with star potential when they signed Ki-Jana Hoever from Ajax for a fee of just £90k.

The Netherlands Under-17 international and Under-17 European Championship winner became Liverpool’s youngest ever player to appear in the FA Cup when he made his debut against Wolves last season, and looks to be a player of real class with plenty of time on his side.

For most Liverpool fans, the interest in Wamangituka having already secured Hoever should fill them with plenty of encouragement and belief that the club is moving in the right direction, and should also make them feel incredibly confident about the sustainability of the first-team.

Exciting times to be a Liverpool supporter, for sure.
