Slot Could Look To Sign 22 y/o If He Gets Spurs Job

Tottenham Hotspur are targeting the potential appointment of Arne Slot as their next manager and he could look to bring one of his Feyenoord stars with him.

Who is Orkun Kokcu?

Spurs still have two league games to earn some level of creditability from their 2022/23 campaign with European football still a possibility.

Although they were dealt with a setback on the weekend against Aston Villa, wins against Brentford and Leeds United could see them secure some form of European action for next season.

Amid their issues on the pitch, a number of obstacles need to be hurdled in the coming weeks off the pitch as the searches for a new manager and a new sporting director continue.

Indeed, it has become apparent Julian Nagelsmann is no longer an option for Spurs this summer with the German believed to be off their shortlist.

However, one name which is believed to be one of the frontrunners now is Slot from Feyenoord and he could potentially look to bring one of his current players with him.

According to reports, the 44-year-old would look at potentially bringing Orkun Kokcu with him to north London having played 94 times under the Dutchman.

And speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, journalist Alasdair Gold has been left excited at the prospect of the Turkish midfielder joining the north London side:

"What's quite interesting is a lot of the talk from the Netherlands as well is that if he does come to Spurs – or wherever he goes – there's a high likelihood that he will try to take Orkun Kokcu with him."

"If a manager comes in, I always do think it's good to give them one of their favourites, as it were, someone to instantly understand their tactics and kind of spread that across the team as well. Set the example as it were."

How much would Kokcu cost?

The 22-year-old Turkey international has come through the ranks at Feyenoord having been born in the Netherlands and joining the Dutch giants back in 2014.

In what has been a season to remember for all at Feyenoord, Kokcu has excelled in Slot's midfield after racking up 12 goals and five assists in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Although his goals may have dried up in recent months, Kokcu has played a huge role in the Feyenoord side having played a total of 3779 minutes in total.

arne-slot-tottenham-hotspur-manager-levy-feyenoord

The Turkey international has certainly shown some incredible signs this season as he ranks inside the top fourth percentile for both progressive carries and passes (via FBref).

To put that into context, Kokcu has provided more than double (6.48) shot-creating actions than Tottenham's current midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (2.79) (via FBref).

Having been compared to the midfield maestro Luke Modric, Kokcu is likely to come with a significant valuation which has previously been claimed to be in the region of £40m.

Erik ten Hag's arrival at Manchester United saw the Dutchman raid Ajax for some of his former players and the Red Devils have enjoyed an upwards trajectory this season.

It will be interesting to see if Slot would be granted the same trust in the transfer window if he is to be appointed.

Pakistan exile is devastating for next generation – Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram says Pakistan’s exile is having a devastating effect on the next generation of players coming through the ranks

Andrew Miller09-Aug-2016Wasim Akram, Pakistan’s legendary left-arm fast bowler, has echoed the concerns voiced by Misbah-ul-Haq on the eve of the Edgbaston Test, that the continuing exile of Pakistan’s cricketers from their homeland is having a devastating effect on the next generation of players coming through the ranks.Wasim, who claimed 414 wickets in 104 Tests, cemented his legendary status by bowling Pakistan to victory in the 1992 World Cup. However, his big break came after being discovered by Javed Miandad as a raw and rapid net bowler in November 1984, and was propelled into the national team at the age of 19, within weeks of claiming 7 for 50 on his first-class debut against the touring New Zealanders.Such a scenario would be virtually unthinkable now, he says, because of the disconnect that has been created between Pakistan’s domestic set-up and the national team, who have been forced, due to security concerns, to play their home matches in the United Arab Emirates for the best part of a decade.”It’s impossible now,” Wasim told ESPNcricinfo. “My fourth first-class game was a Test match [against New Zealand at Auckland], and that won’t happen now. Javed Miandad saw me, then Imran [Khan] met me when I went to play for Pakistan and took me under his wing, then Waqar [Younis] came along and we ruled the world for ten years. But that opportunity isn’t there for youngsters anymore.”Under Misbah’s leadership, Pakistan have risen above their off-field issues to become one of the leading Test teams in the world and they are virtually unbeatable in their home-from-home in the UAE. But, as Misbah pointed out last week, such achievements are hollow if they do not resonate with the fans.”If you are not watching the heroes and the top stars in the world in the grounds and you are not meeting them… without that, it’s really difficult for the Pakistan Cricket Board and it can really hurt them financially also,” he said.Wasim agreed wholeheartedly. “There’s been no cricket in Pakistan for seven or eight years, and cricket is struggling in Pakistan in general,” he said. “Imagine when I was young, I used to go to Lahore’s Gadaffi stadium. I watched England playing there … Bob Willis, Graham Gooch, Mike Gatting … I watched India there in 1978 and 1982, when I was in class ten, with [Sunil] Gavaskar and Kapil Dev … Australia with Allan Border.”They motivated me, but for Pakistan’s budding cricketers, there’s no cricket there. Everything is played in the UAE on bland, placid wickets and nobody is watching cricket there. One-day cricket gets a bit of support, and T20s over three hours, but for Test cricket it is mostly empty stadiums, so it has affected Pakistan cricket big-time.”One potential solution to Pakistan’s disconnect with its fans could lie in the nascent Pakistan Super League, which made a successful debut in the UAE in February 2016, with Wasim’s team, Islamabad United, beating Quetta Gladiators in a sold-out final in Dubai. There have been tentative discussions about introducing some elements of next year’s competition to Pakistan, with potentially the knock-out stages to be held in Karachi or Lahore. However, much would rest with the willingness of the team’s star players to travel to the country. One big name, Andre Russell, recently admitted he would be willing, but “scared” if asked to go.”The PSL was a great success,” said Wasim. “It was the second most watched event in Pakistan television history – 68% of the country watched it, and that is a lot of ratings.”The idea is to gradually take the PSL to Pakistan – maybe the final, or the semi-final – and see what happens. But if the PSL happens in Pakistan, every game you will get 50,000, 80,000 watching from the ground.”Things are better in Pakistan security-wise,” he added. “I live there, and things are better. If teams decide to tour there, then cricket in Pakistan will evolve to a different level.”But the sooner this happens, the better. Not just for Pakistan cricket, but for world cricket, because if Pakistan cricket evolves, it will improve world cricket. The PCB and the Pakistan government are trying, things are getting better, and hopefully soon someone will put their hands up and say ‘let’s tour Pakistan’ and see what happens.”

Klopp Fumes At £180k-A-Week Liverpool Player v Southampton

Jurgen Klopp was left angered at one incident involving Roberto Firmino in Liverpool's 4-4 draw away to Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

How did Liverpool fare at Southampton?

The Reds faced their final game of a hugely disappointing season, making the trip to an already-threatened Saints side who have also struggled in their own right. Fifth place was the best that Klopp's side could hope for going into the match, and it proved to be a crazy game at St Mary's, with neither side having much to play for.

Diogo Jota capitalised on a dreadful misplaced pass by rumoured Liverpool transfer target Romeo Lavia to give the visitors the lead, before Firmino made it 2-0 in his last-ever match in a Reds shirt.

Southampton fought back impressively, however, with James Ward-Prowse reducing the arrears with a well-taken effort, before Kamaldeen Sulemana equalised with a shot that Caoimhin Kelleher failed to keep out.

Early in the second half, he then put the hosts with a curled finish from the edge of the penalty area, as the Reds fell to pieces on the south coast, with some of the defending on show summing up their struggles in that area throughout the season.

Substitute Adam Armstrong made it 4-2 just after coming in to seemingly compound Liverpool's misery, but Cody Gakpo and Jota scored in the space of a few minutes to make it 4-4.

What did Firmino do wrong v Saints?

Taking to Twitter, Ian Doyle spotted Klopp's anger at one moment involving Firmino during the first half, in which he failed to make life easy for teammate Curtis Jones:

"Klopp not happy with Firmino after one very strongly hit pass gave Jones not much chance to control."

In truth, this wasn't a day to be too bothered about Firmino's negative involvement against Saints, instead focusing on a legendary career from the Brazilian.

The £180,000-a-week attacker has been a true modern-day great at Anfield, scoring 111 goals and registering 79 assists, with his selfless style the perfect foil for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at his peak.

He should be remembered as one of the most influential figures of the Klopp era, arriving in 2015 and spending eight iconic years on Merseyside, winning the Champions League and Premier League, among numerous other trophies. It is great to see him bow out with a goal in both his final home game and last-ever match for Liverpool, too, and the hope is that he continues to enjoy the rest of his career, wherever he ends up.

Chelsea Turn Down £30m Bid For Impressive Figure

Chelsea have rejected a £30m bid for highly-rated young centre-back Levi Colwill, according to fresh update from journalist Jacob Steinberg.

Has Colwill had a good season?

The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, in order to gain some valuable experience, rather than struggle for playing time at Stamford Bridge and potentially grow stagnant.

Colwill enjoyed an impressive season with the Seagulls, admittedly not always managing to play ahead of Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster, but still starting a total of 13 matches in the Premier League, and making 20 appearances, in all competitions. He played his part in the south coast club being one of the most aesthetically-pleasing teams in the division, with his ball-playing ability highlighted by an eye-catching 88.6% pass completion rate.

The young Englishman will be back at Chelsea this summer, however, and there is set to be interest in his signature, with his current Blues deal expiring in the summer of 2025. In fact, it already looks as though that is the case, following a new claim that has emerged.

Is Colwill set to stay at Chelsea?

Taking to Twitter, The Guardian's Steinberg confirmed that a big-money bid for Colwill has been turned down by Chelsea:

"Chelsea reject £30m Brighton bid for Levi Colwill and have no plans to sell him."

It is vital that the Blues do all they can to retain Colwill's services beyond this summer, considering what a massive prospect he is for many years to come, having been hailed as "fantastic" by former Huddersfield Town teammate Lewis O'Brien. He has been compared to John Terry in the past, too, and been tipped to be a future England international, showing the ability he possesses.

With the likes of Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly both ageing at the back, Mauricio Pochettino could view Colwill as the future of his defence and the fact that he was never afraid to give youth a chance during his Tottenham days – he brought through the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli – means that the player could have a perfect manager to work alongside.

There is still the threat that the five-cap England Under-21 international wants to leave Chelsea, however, should he not be promised a regular squad role next season, so the likes of Pochettino and Todd Boehly have a big job on their hands persuading him to stay put.

Paul Adams’ position as Cobras’ head coach is under threat after 14 of the franchise’s contracted players lodged a formal grievance against him. The players, none of whom has been named, claim there has been a “material breakdown in their relationship,” according to Andrew Breetzke, head of player services and advocacy at the South African Cricketers’ Association. The board and the players will meet on Monday to take a final decision on Adams’ future. The complaint against Adams was laid at the end of the previous season – the first in eight seasons that Cobras went without a trophy – and pertains to Adams’ man-management skills, and tactical and technical knowledge. Adams was aware of the situation and underwent a leadership course over the winter period in an attempt to address any shortcomings. However, player unhappiness had not subsided by the time pre-season training began, and the Western Cape Cricket board convened a five-man independent panel to investigate. They recommended the appointment of a mediator which WCC accepted. Former national mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton was tasked with the job, and he submitted a report to WCC which was discussed at a board meeting on Thursday night, but no resolution was reached. Instead, Adams will have to wait until Monday before there is certainty over his future.Adams declined to respond when ESPNcricinfo attempted to contact him.Adams, who has been in charge of the Cobras since 2012 and has guided them to five domestic titles, was recently given a new two-year contract. He has also had his support staff beefed up with the addition of former internationals Ashwell Prince, who was appointed his assistant, and Alan Dawson, the new convener of selectors. Whether that will be enough to pacify the players is unclear. reported that several senior players may opt to leave the Cobras if Adams is retained.

Middle-order concerns weigh on weary NZ

While India have benefitted from Virat Kohli’s form and a bowling unit that has been persistent, New Zealand are still scrambling to put all the pieces together and stay alive in the ODI series

The Preview by Arun Venugopal in Ranchi25-Oct-2016Match factsWednesday, October 26, 2016

Latham emphasises subtle adjustments

Big pictureAt the start of the series, India had eight ODIs – five against New Zealand and three against England – to get their combination right before the Champions Trophy next year. Of equally high priority was the need to strengthen their limited-overs game – aside from whitewashing Zimbabwe twice, India haven’t won a bilateral series since November 2014.India have the opportunity to accomplish both objectives against a weary New Zealand, who have been away from home for more than a month and are desperate for success in at least one leg of the tour. The visitors, however, are yet to repair a flimsy middle order, which has squandered good starts in all three ODIs so far. Corey Anderson’s comeback has yielded only 31 runs, while Luke Ronchi, who counterattacked admirably in the Tests, averages a mere 2.33.India’s team management, on the other hand, will be happy with what they have achieved. For one, the bowling unit has exceeded expectations. While Jasprit Bumrah has been reliable as ever, Umesh Yadav has improved his accuracy without sacrificing pace. Amit Mishra has enjoyed leading a young spin attack, and along with Axar Patel, whose wicket tally has not been commensurate with his persistence, he has ensured India have not missed R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The biggest revelations, though, have been Hardik Pandya’s ability with the new ball and part-timer Kedar Jadhav’s knack for breaking partnerships. With Virat Kohli casually gunning down chases, the rest of the batting has been tested only once, in Delhi, when no one made good on their start. India will hope the likes of Manish Pandey and Jadhav get to spend more time in the middle in the next two ODIs.The selectors have stressed on continuity by retaining the same squad – minus Suresh Raina, who is still recovering from illness – for the remaining two games. While India will want to give the players on the bench – Mandeep Singh, Jayant Yadav and Dhawal Kulkarni – an opportunity at some point over the next two games, they will also seek to ensure some of the newer players who are already in the XI get an extended run.Form guideIndia WLWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
New Zealand LWLWLIn the spotlightIn the absence of the injured Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul, this was Ajinkya Rahane’s best chance to show why he deserved to open in ODIs ahead of them. But, Rahane failed to convert two starts before being dismissed in the third over in Mohali. Time may be running out for him, with the team management also probably keen to have a look at the uncapped Mandeep Singh in the opening slot.Ross Taylor has been in the news both on and off the field in the last few days. In Mohali, he took an encouraging step forward as a batsman before Mishra’s drift and turn ended his resilience. In the chase, though, Taylor dropped Kohli on 6, only to see him add another 148 to his score and steer India to victory. On-field challenges aside, Taylor will also have to block out the noise accompanying Brendon McCullum’s stormy remarks about his captaincy tenure.Part-time offspinner Kedar Jadhav has taken six wickets in three matches•Associated Press

Team newsIndia had an optional training session, with Mandeep and Pandey taking first strike against Kulkarni, Pandya and Jayant. If they play him instead of Ronchi, there might be a case for slotting him at No. 5 and Anderson at No. 6, with the latter’s brief narrowed down to attacking the bowling from the start. New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 BJ Watling/Luke Ronchi (wk), 6 Corey Anderson, 7 James Neesham/Anton Devcich, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Matt HenryPitch and conditionsNew Zealand opener Tom Latham insisted the Ranchi pitch was different from the one in Mohali. It’s the most by any batsman on either side New Zealand have added 50-plus runs for the ninth wicket three times in eight ODI innings in 2016. Two of those partnerships have come in this series Kohli’s last two ODI innings in Ranchi have been match-winning efforts in chases. Every game is important, but this one probably is a little more important to keep the series alive.”
“In the past I have tried to play out of my skin, getting overexcited, but I’ve realised if I can time the ball, and hit the gaps and run hard, I can still get runs. I know teams want to get me out immediately, so I take my time, go with the flow and then attack at the end.”

Journalist Drops Big Wolves News Over £199k-A-Week Target

Wolves look highly unlikely to sign Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati this summer, according to an update from reliable journalist Steve Madeley.

Have Wolves been linked with Fati?

Wanderers managed to steady the ship last season, thanks to the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, who steered them clear of the Premier League relegation zone. There is no doubt that improvements are required next term, however, and for that to happen, top quality new faces need to arrive at Molineux.

One individual who has been linked with a move to Wolves a number of times is Fati, with the £199,000-a-week winger potentially leaving Barca during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old has been a highly-rated young star for a number of years now, but he has struggled to be a key man under Xavi in 2022/23, starting only 12 of his side's 38 La Liga matches.

While the idea of the Spaniard in a Wolves shirt is exciting, given the talent he possesses, an update on the situation explains why it now doesn't look like coming to fruition in the next few months.

Ansu Fati in action for Barcelona.

Do Wanderers still want Fati signing?

Taking to Twitter, Madeley claimed that Fati is not interested in joining Wolves this summer, while the club themselves won't entertain the idea of signing a player who doesn't want to be there:

"On Fati: he doesn't want to join Wolves, Wolves don't want players who aren't fully on board and they aren't expecting to do big-money deals this summer. So unless things change dramatically, it's a non-starter."

This is the right stance for Wolves to take, in fairness, with an unhappy player at Molineux having the potential to have a detrimental effect on team morale and the general happiness within the club.

In an ideal world, Fati would be jumping at the chance to be in a Wanderers shirt and he would be snapped up, considering teammate Eric Garcia has hailed him as a "magic" footballer, but he seemingly sees Wolves as too big a step down.

Lopetegui needs to focus on alternatives instead now, and eye up players who believe in his project in England, coming in and bolstering his attacking options in the process. A disappointing tally of just 31 goals in the Premier League has to be improved upon – it was the lowest amount in the division, which says a lot about their struggles and highlights the need for attacking reinforcements.
