Arsenal Set To Make Bid For "Sensational" £60k-p/w Star

Arsenal are set to make a bid for Declan Rice after West Ham United's Europa Conference League final, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Who will Declan Rice sign for?

The Gunners have been making solid progress in their pursuit of Rice, with it recently being reported they have agreed personal terms with the West Ham United captain, meaning agreeing a suitable transfer fee is the last remaining obstacle.Although the Englishman's preference is to move to north London, there could still be competition for his signature, with Manchester United registering their interest, currently "waiting in the wings" to potentially hijack the deal.Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, however talkSPORT's Simon Jordan has claimed the player's preference is to try and win the Premier League with one of the big clubs in England.Arsenal pushed Manchester City all the way last season, before coming up just short, however Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad to give them the best possible chance of competing for the title again next season. The West Ham midfielder is a key target, and Romano has now claimed that a bid will be made after the Europa Conference League final, which is set to take place on Wednesday night.Bayern are also name checked as potential suitors, however the transfer expert is keen to stress that "nothing is done or close yet."

Will Rice sign for Arsenal?

As previously highlighted, the England international's preference is to move to north London this summer, while personal terms have allegedly been agreed, meaning the Gunners should be well-placed to win the race for his signature. The central midfielder is deemed unlikely to move to Chelsea, but he wants to remain in London and play in the Champions League, so a move to the Emirates Stadium would make perfect sense.

Hailed as "sensational" by members of the media, the £60k-per-week maestro registered 79 tackles in the Premier League last season, the ninth-highest figure in the top flight, and WhoScored ranked him as West Ham's best-performing player. An average of 1.7 interceptions per game was the most of any Hammers player, and the midfielder also displayed his attacking prowess by averaging one key pass and 0.9 dribbles. The Gunners are in a very strong position to sign Rice, and his range of qualities would make him a fantastic addition to Arteta's squad.

Pakistan have added batsman Younis Khan to their squad for the second Test against West Indies in Abu Dhabi, which starts from October 21. Younis’ inclusion is the only change to the squad for the ongoing series.Younis had missed the first Test after being advised extended rest as he recovered from a bout of dengue. The 38-year-old batsman had contracted a high fever last month that was later diagnosed as the mosquito-borne disease, as he underwent treatment at a Karachi hospital. The illness also forced him out of the first round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier first-class tournament.Younis is Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in Tests with 9456 runs at 53.72. Before the Dubai Test, he had last missed a Test in May 2011, and had since played 41 successive matches, scoring 3839 runs at an average of 59.06. He scored 218 against England at The Oval in his last Test appearance.

Brathwaite, Holder help West Indies edge towards win

After Jason Holder claimed career-best figures of 5 for 30 bowl out Pakistan for 208, Kraigg Brathwaite steered West Indies to within 39 runs of victory in Sharjah

After subsiding for 208 to set West Indies a target of 153, Pakistan took five wickets to leave the Sharjah Test tantalisingly poised at stumps on day four. But, just 39 runs away from claiming their first win of the UAE tour, West Indies held the edge thanks to Kraigg Brathwaite’s immovable presence at the crease.Brathwaite, who had carried his bat through the first innings for 142, was at the crease on 44, having seen his side through a startling wobble that had left them 67 for 5. He looked calm and solid throughout his knock, assured in defence and adept at rotating the strike. Shane Dowrich, who kept him company in an unbroken 47-run sixth-wicket stand that saw out the day, was less convincing early in his innings, playing Wahab Riaz with feet rooted to the crease and stumps exposed. Nonetheless, he settled in to hit some telling boundaries towards the end of the day and tilt the balance back in West Indies’ favour. That West Indies found themselves with the upper hand was thanks in no small part to some loose cricket from Pakistan. In a tragicomic collapse after lunch, Pakistan lost five wickets for 33 runs, including 3 for 4 in the space of 18 balls, to be bowled out for 208.The slide began in the seventh over after lunch, when legspinner Devendra Bishoo had Mohammad Nawaz caught at short leg. He landed the ball on a good length in the rough outside the left-hander’s off stump and extracted just enough turn to pick up an inside edge to Leon Johnson, who stuck out his left hand to take a sharp catch.Bishoo’s next wicket came four overs later, when Azhar Ali, batting on 91, gifted his wicket away. Seeing a liberally flighted delivery, Azhar started shaping for a sweep, before realising the ball was too far outside off stump for the shot. Instead of leaving the ball alone, Azhar then offered a limp drive and only succeeded in guiding it to Darren Bravo at first slip.Thirteen balls later, Mohammad Amir perished to one of the most entertaining run-outs conceivable to leave Pakistan in even greater trouble. Wickets were now falling at increasingly short intervals; the next one came after four balls when Wahab Riaz turned a Holder delivery to Johnson, who took a remarkable reflex catch at short leg, off the face of the bat.Zulfiqar Babar then chipped in with a six and a four in a seven-ball 15 that took Pakistan past 200 and their lead past 150. But Holder trapped Yasir Shah in front for a duck to conclude a breathless passage of play and collect figures of 5 for 30. It was Holder’s first five-wicket haul in Tests and put his team within sight of their first Test win under his captaincy.Having left the door wide open for West Indies, Pakistan then proceeded to give them encouraging nudges towards the threshold. Off the fifth delivery of the chase, Amir found Johnson’s edge only for Misbah-ul-Haq to put down a regulation chance at third slip. Amir’s frustration was compounded in his next over, when Sami Aslam, at first slip, made a total hash of another chance off the same batsman. But shortly after tea, West Indies lost 5 for 38 in a period of play that brought Pakistan roaring back. Yasir got the first three of those wickets. Johnson, looking to pull a shortish delivery, was hit in front when the ball did not rise as much as he expected. Bravo was set up beautifully by four legbreaks before Yasir slipped one in that did not turn as much and took the outside edge. Marlon Samuels went for an irresponsible loft with long-off in place and holed out to Babar. Then Wahab bowled Jermaine Blackwood when the batsman brought down an angled bat to a ball that honed into the stumps from around the wicket. When Roston Chase flicked Wahab in the air to midwicket, West Indies were tottering.Perhaps fittingly, West Indies’ recovery was engineered by a man who had hardly been off the field throughout the match. With Dowrich for company, and Holder and Bishoo still to come, Brathwaite can expect decent support as he attempts to steer his team to their first win in 14 Tests.

Reports Claim Man Utd Bid To Wipe £969.6m Debt Is Complete

Qatar’s Al-Watan newspaper has reported that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani’s bid to complete a takeover of Manchester United has been completed and will be announced soon.

What is the latest MUFC takeover news?

For months now rumours have circulated about who could be the new owners of Old Trafford, or if the club had even actually been fully put up for sale by the Glazer family.

While the situation is ever-changing, it wasn’t that long ago that Ineos’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe was viewed as the leading candidate as his bid would see two of the Glazers stay put in a partial takeover, though it would still see the British billionaire become majority owner.

However, as reported by CNBC, Manchester United shares surged as much as 30% in premarket trading on Tuesday, before paring gains, after Qatari media suggested Sheikh Jassim was likely to succeed with his takeover bid.

Indeed, a Tweet from the Al-Watan newspaper wrote about the “success of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jassim’s acquisition of Manchester United” and said the announcement of deal the will be done “soon.”

On top of that, Zaid Al-Hamdan, who is the Vice Chairman of the Canadian Qatari Business Council and Chairman of Armasite Group – and is followed by Sheikh Jassim’s brother on Twitter – also spoke of ‘successful’ acquisition.

He wrote on social media: “Congratulations to Shaikh Jassim Bin Hamad Bin Jassim on his acquisition of Man Utd.”

How big is Man United’s debt?

In that CNBC report, they also note that a spokesperson for Manchester United was not immediately available to comment and so these reports are only coming from Qatar and have not been confirmed by the English side as of yet.

Last week, BBC Sport stated that Sheikh Jassim had made a final bid for 100% of the club and he will clear United’s debt – reported to be £969.6m – and has a separate fund for the club and local community as part of his offer.

If he is to fail with that bid, the Qatari banker will pull out of the race and so it feels as though we have finally reached crunch time with regard to the whole takeover saga.

It remains to be seen if his offer will be enough to meet the Glazer family’s demands but it seems those outside of England are pretty confident a deal has been struck at last.

Tottenham: Spurs Favourites To Sign "The Next Kulusevski"

Tottenham Hotspur are currently in pole position to sign Galatasary star and Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo this summer, according to reports

Who will Spurs sign this summer?

The transfer agenda for chairman Daniel Levy and manager Ange Postecoglou is varied with Spurs targeting key additions all over the pitch.

After failing to qualify for Europe, and not winning any silverware yet again, the north Londoners must continue their rebuild as many players become linked with possible exits.

Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele all face uncertain futures at N17 with Levy and co eyeing up new signings (The Telegraph).

Spurs apparently wish to sign a new goalkeeper, to replace the potentially departing Lloris, but also have plans to sign a new centre-back, central attacking midfielder and even a new forward.

This has lead to interest in the likes of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, Wolves defender Max Kilman, Leicester City star James Maddison and, now, Zaniolo.

Italy midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Italian has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham before, specifically during the Antonio Conte era when Fabio Paratici was also the club's sporting director.

Zaniolo eventually ended up joining Galatasary, but as per Milliyet's Galatasaray correspondent Nevzat Dindar, live on Skorer TV (via Milliyet), they're back in the race again.

Dindar says Tottenham are the closest club to signing Zaniolo, above other competitors like Juventus.

"Zaniolo is also evolving into a world star. English clubs for Zaniolo," said the journalist.

"It goes up to 30-35 million euros. At this point, Galatasaray does not take Juventus' offers seriously. Tottenham is the closest club to finish Zaniolo."

How good is Nicolo Zaniolo?

The 23-year-old, over his most recent cameos for Galatasary, appears to have rejuvenated his career somewhat after a regrettable last few months at Roma.

In his last 10 league appearances for them, Zaniolo bagged five goals and proved a constant threat, with only Dries Mertens, Sergio Oliveira and Mauro Icardi averaging more attempts per 90 (WhoScored).

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, commenting on Zaniolo's previous links to Tottenham, even claimed he could be the next Dejan Kulusevski.

“If the system changed slightly, a Zaniolo or a James Maddison would fit in at Spurs," said Robinson to Football Insider.

"I would love to see Maddison come in. I cannot see Leicester doing business with anyone this month though. Their resources are tight so that is a deal that would have to wait for the summer.

“Zaniolo is of a similar type of mould though. Perhaps he could be the next Kulusevski or Bentancur – a steal from Italy in the January window.”

Debutant Handscomb's 'nice little script'

Australia batsman Peter Handscomb says his Test debut, which included a half-century and hitting the winning runs, ran to a “nice little script”

Brydon Coverdale29-Nov-2016

There are batsmen who go their entire careers without hitting the winning runs in a Test, so for Peter Handscomb to have had the pleasure in Adelaide made his debut all the more memorable. Even more remarkable was the fact that another debutant – opener Matt Renshaw – was at the other end.Only once before in Test history had two debutants been at the crease when the winning runs were struck in a Test, and that occurred in 1880 in the fourth Test match ever played. To give some context to the drought, Adelaide was the 2236th Test ever played. Combined with Handscomb’s first-innings 54, it meant his was a particularly unforgettable debut.”It was a nice little script out there,” Handscomb said on Tuesday. “I was kind of hoping I didn’t have to bat in that second innings, or at least that Matty Renshaw would hit the two runs that were needed and I could just sit on my bat. But it was nice to be out there, and with Matty as well in his first game, it was pretty cool.”Handscomb, Renshaw and Nic Maddinson all made their debuts in Australia’s win over South Africa, and were among the five changes to a radically overhauled side following the loss of the series in Hobart. And while there were runs for both Handscomb and Renshaw, Maddinson is still waiting for his first scoring shot in a Test, having been bowled by Kagiso Rabada for a 12-ball duck.”He’s fine, he’s a resilient player who knows his own game and he’s just a great bloke,” Handscomb said. “If you get a good ball you’re happy to go out to it – bowlers are allowed to bowl good balls. He’s fine. He’s still feeling good, and if he gets another opportunity I daresay he’ll come out and whack them.”Handscomb was speaking at the MCG, where his Victoria team-mates were moving towards a five-wicket Sheffield Shield victory over South Australia on the final day. And while Australia’s ODI players now squeeze a three-match Chappell-Hadlee campaign into their gap between Test series, Handscomb is expected to play for Victoria in next week’s Shield game against Tasmania in Hobart. That red-ball game will be his final preparation for the first Test against Pakistan at the Gabba, a day-night pink-ball affair starting on December 15. And while Handscomb entered his Test debut with a strong record at Adelaide Oval – he had 479 first-class runs there at 68.42 – his figures at the Gabba are less impressive. In five first-class games there, he has 189 runs at 21.00.”I’ve never batted at the Gabba with the pink ball under lights,” he said. “It will be a whole new feeling. We’ll just have to wait and see, I think.”Handscomb’s unusual method of batting extremely deep in his crease worked to good effect for him at Adelaide, where he was able to play the ball late and was particularly strong when cutting. His deep stance also appeared to upset the lengths of the South African bowlers, and he said it was a method that he had developed in the past couple of seasons.”Batting deep in the crease came because I like to play off the back foot as much as I can, so the deeper I am the more chance the ball is going to be at a shorter length,” he said. “But also, mate, bowlers are fast. These guys can bowl some good clicks.”The deeper I am, the longer I get to see the ball and react to it off the wicket or react to it in the air. It’s just something that I developed a couple of years ago with [former Victoria coach] Greg Shipperd and since then it’s all gone pretty well.”Handscomb’s promising start in Test cricket should ensure he gets a decent run in Australia’s middle order, even if the batting line-up is rejigged to accommodate Shaun Marsh, who missed out in Hobart and Adelaide due to injury. There is a strong likelihood that Handscomb will be part of the XI for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan, which, as for all Victoria players, would be a dream come true.”The thought has crossed my mind,” he said. “Hopefully I can get there first, get selected, and if I get the opportunity to come out here in front of a Boxing Day crowd, I’ll be pretty stoked. Hopefully it happens. I was just about to put my order in for a few Boxing Day Test tickets, so I might just hold off on that.”

Ahmed Shehzad struck a 51-ball 68 in a 105-run partnership with opener Imam-ul-Haq – after Fakhar Zaman retired hurt – to help Habib Bank claim the title in the Departmental One-Day Cup. They recorded a five-wicket win against Sui Southern Gas Corporation in Karachi, their fifth victory in a row in the tournament.Chasing 233, Habib Bank’s first wicket fell only in the 24th over after Mohammad Irfan dismissed No. 3 Shehzad after his innings that included nine fours and one six. The team’s score was 143 for 1 then, and although a mini-collapse did have them slump to 174 for 5 in the 33rd over – Zaman tried to return to bat but had to leave again – an unbeaten sixth-wicket partnership of 61 between Zohaib Khan (29) and Fahim Ashraf (34) took them through with 14 balls to spare.Earlier in the match, Habib Bank’s bowlers kept Sui Southern’s runs in check with regular wickets at the top. By the 17th over, they were 31 for 3 and took about 30 overs to reach 100. Shoaib Malik held up one end with a 92-ball 93 – his innings included nine fours – but with wickets constantly falling at the other end, doubled with the sluggish start, Sui Southern could manage only 232 for 7 in their 50 overs.
