Celtic: Hoops Closing In On New Signing At Parkhead

An update has emerged on Celtic and their plans to bolster their squad following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as their new head coach.

What’s the latest on Marco Tilio to Celtic?

According to the Daily Record, the Hoops are closing in on a deal to sign Melbourne City winger Marco Tilio ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The report claims that the Glasgow-based side have agreed a fee with the A-League outfit and they will now discuss personal terms with the player and organise a medical in the hope of making him the second signing of the summer, following on from Odin Thiago Holm's arrival from Valerenga.

This comes after the Daily Mail reported that head of recruitment Mark Lawwell used his relationship with the City Group to target the Australian, with the Scottish giants now pursuing his signature.

Would Marco Tilio be a good signing for Celtic?

The 21-year-old ace could be a terrific addition to Rodgers’ squad as the young forward has the potential to be a big upgrade on current Hoops wide man Daizen Maeda.

In the 2022/23 Scottish Premiership campaign, the Japan international averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.78 across 35 matches and contributed in the final third with eight goals and five assists, whilst he also missed 11 ‘big chances’.

The Celtic winger created 0.8 chances per game for his teammates – which placed him 15th in the squad – something that does not suggest the 25-year-old was a regular source of creativity for Ange Postecoglou.

Former Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.

Tilio, on the other hand, averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.02 across 29 A-League outings, showing that the young ace has the potential to perform at a higher level week-in-week-out, and chipped in with ten goals and five assists.

The Melbourne dynamo produced 1.1 key passes per match for his fellow attackers and only missed seven ‘big chances’ himself, indicating that he would provide more creativity than the current Hoops attacker.

Their respective goal returns, and conversion rate of 'big chances', also suggest that Tilio has the quality to be more ruthless in front of goal.

Maeda was certainly wasteful with the opportunities he had in the Premiership with the forward missing more 'big chances' than he scored goals. Therefore, signing the Australia international could improve the goal output of the team from the wide positions.

With Tilio once being described as a "playmaker" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, he could well be a big upgrade on the Japanese frontman in the final third and, as a result, be an exceptional signing for Rodgers this summer.

Everton Want ‘Lively’ £9m Gray Replacement At Goodison

Everton could be set to enforce a lucrative move for the club, by signing some competition for a reportedly outgoing star…

What's the latest on Dan Ndoye to Everton?

With Demarai Gray having been linked with a switch to free-spending Saudi Arabia, many within the club would likely implore him to depart in order to help them out of their financial hole.

Whilst it is difficult to simply exile a player in such a situation, perhaps the acquisition of another in his role could offer the subliminal message to convince the Jamaica international to leave.

The latest on this pursuit comes from Fabrizio Romano, to took to his personal Instagram account (2 July) to offer an update on the future of FC Basel forward Dan Ndoye.

He wrote: "Talks are taking place for Dan Ndoye as things will move in the next days as now U21 Euros are over for him. West Ham, Everton, Sporting, Porto and AS Monaco are tracking Swiss forward young talent; he was part of the team of the season in Conference League."

Football Transfers value the former OGC Nice gem at just €10.1m (£9m).

Who is Dan Ndoye?

Although the youngster might mark a relative unknown, his versatility at such a young age makes him a fine asset to have within a squad that is lacking depth in attack.

Last term saw the Switzerland U21 international make a whopping 54 appearances across all competitions, including a starring role in his club's run to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.

On the way he would manage a total of seven goals and five assists, already outperforming that of his potential predecessor and proving himself far more reliable than the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Whilst the Toffees' wide man showed his selflessness during a tough campaign, often deputising up front in an unfamiliar role, his tally of four goals in the league still marked a disappointing one; especially when considering that two of those came from the penalty spot.

The 27-year-old is hardly irreplaceable, and for all his remarkable footwork and electric pace, the consistency with which he provides it is far too scarce to make him a dependable asset.

Although Ndoye might be much younger, at least Sean Dyche could invest in his potential, and seek to mould him into a fine asset that could be a stalwart to rival Dwight McNeil on the flanks.

demarai-gray-everton

Journalist Josh Bunting sought to outline one particular moment of quality from the youngster, describing a goal he scored back in 2022: "Dan Ndoye with the opener, he won the ball back before turning quickly and then firing a strike beyond Jonathan Tuffey. That’s just the difference in quality but Crusaders have played very well, been compact."

This apparent ability to create from nothing will be important next season, given the Merseyside outfit were the second-lowest scorers in the whole Premier League last year.

In an effort to both improve in that role and achieve a sizable boost to their coffers, trading out Gray for the "lively" Ndoye – as dubbed by one scout – would mark a no-brainer.

Brilliant Rossouw-Sarfraz stand maintains Quetta's perfect record

Rilee Rossouw and Sarfraz Ahmed combined for the second biggest stand in PSL history to spearhead a seven-wicket win for Quetta Gladiators over Karachi Kings

The Report By Danyal Rasool11-Feb-2017
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details5:20

Watch – Rossouw, Sarfraz fifties flatten Karachi

In a nutshellA 130-run partnership between Rilee Rossouw and Sarfraz Ahmed – the second highest in PSL history – saw Quetta Gladiators beat the Karachi Kings by seven wickets. The pair came together with the Gladiators tottering at 30 for 3 in the fifth over but they combined power hitting with composure, not to mention superb running between the wickets. It was a chanceless stand, a masterclass in how to deal with pressure and gradually take control of a game.On Friday, Mohammad Amir was the Kings’ most impressive opening bowler. This time his opening partner Sohail Khan took up the mantle, bowling a consistently good length on the off stump line, seaming the ball away from the right-hander. It wouldn’t have been out of place on the first morning of a Test match. He got his rewards, dismissing Ahmed Shehzad, Kevin Pietersen and Asad Shafiq in the space of four balls only for momentum to be stolen back by Rossouw and Sarfraz.Karachi had earlier started off quite cautiously. Chris Gayle scratched out an unconvincing 11 and Kumar Sangakkara searching for form holed out to extra cover for 25. By the end of the fourteenth over, they were 87 for 3. From there, they were never going to get a par score, and only poor death bowling by last year’s finalists – Tymal Mills excepted – took Karachi to their final total of 159. But Rossouw and Sarfraz saw to it that it wouldn’t be enough.Where the match was wonWhile the Gladiators fourth wicket partnership was impressive enough, it only really began to pose a threat after a moment Karachi only had themselves to blame. Five balls into the ninth over of the Quetta innings, a no-ball was called because the Kings’ didn’t have enough fielders inside the circle. That bit of self-inflicted harm was punished severely, Rossouw launching the free hit for six over midwicket. The final ball met the same fate as a good over suddenly went for 19. The asking rate came under eight and the batsmen had all the answers. The men that won itRossouw, who was so impressive against Lahore on Friday in holding Quetta’s innings together, was the main architect again, albeit in a more destructive manner. Forty runs came off his first 21 balls before the former South African international slowed down as Quetta’s captain Sarfraz began to find his timing. The pair’s running between the wickets is especially worth pointing out. Pressure was regularly placed on Karachi’s fielders and several ones were converted into twos. At no stage did it look like a wicket was about to fall, from the moment the pair got together right to the last delivery, a full toss which Rossouw dispatched to the extra cover boundary.1:23

WATCH – Rossouw’s match-winning 76*

Tidy Tymal MillsThe only phase where Quetta looked like being outplayed was between overs 14 and 19 of the Karachi innings. From 87 in 14, Sangakkara’s men plundered 64 runs off the next five overs, taking advantage of wayward – and frankly bizarre – lines and lengths from Quetta’s bowlers. At one point, it looked like they might even get to 170. They might have done were it not for Mills, who more than justified his T20 reputation with a superb spell by varying his pace and line regularly to finish with 2 for 21 in four overs. That included a disciplined final over which yielded just eight runs and ensured Karachi’s total didn’t get out of hand.Moment of the matchIt is often said Quetta do not have superstars in their lineup, relying instead on team performances. There is one glaring exception to that of course in the form of Pietersen. However, when he came in today at 23 for 1, he edged the first ball from Sohail to the wicketkeeper. It was a poor shot first up against the seaming ball and it left him with three runs in two matches. Other teams might struggle in the absence of a contribution from such an instrumental player, but Quetta have still managed to win both their games, showing there might be something in their reputation of being a team rather than just a collection of individuals.Where they standQuetta are the only team to still boast a 100 percent record and sit at the top of the table on four points. Karachi, conversely, are the only side to lose both their games and sit at the bottom of the league. This defeat means Karachi Kings have lost 9 of their 11 PSL matches with their only wins coming against Lahore Qalandars.

Rangers Need To Splash Record £17.1m Fee To Sign Danilo

Rangers' attempts to sign Danilo this summer may have just hit a stumbling block, with AD in the Netherlands ,via Rangers News, reporting that he could cost nearly £20m in a transfer deal this transfer window.

Who is Danilo?

The forward currently plays for Feyenoord and has impressed during his first season with the club. Playing on 34 occasions for the side, he bagged ten goals and managed three assists, as they claimed the Eredivise title.

What is even more impressive is when you consider how many games the Brazilian actually started – he was named in the starting eleven just 14 times – his 13 goal contributions means he averages just about a goal or assists every time he's in the XI.

It's not the first time that the 24-year-old has shone either, as a loan to FC Twente in 2020/21 brought him a further 17 goals and five assists in just 31 starts. It shows that if you give the striker regular minutes in a team, he can reward you in attack.

However, having struggled to break into the Ajax team and to have the same impact with them – he spent more time with Jong Ajax than the first-team – he eventually swapped to Feyenoord permanently.

Now, he could be set for another exit. That's because Scottish Premiership side Rangers have been keeping a close eye on the Brazilian ahead of a potential transfer this summer, with talks having already taken place.

Are Rangers signing Danilo?

However, the Gers' hopes of landing the 24-year-old may have been dealt a fresh blow. That's because according to a report from AD in the Netherlands, via Rangers News, Feyenoord would want a fee of around 20 million Euros (or £17.1m) to even consider flogging the attacker this summer.

It would be a huge record fee for a new signing at Ibrox, and the report states that the Eredivisie outfit are not willing to even consider a sale if an offer is below that amount. It also adds that they have funds already in their coffers – so there is not a desperate need for them to sell any of their best players.

Rangers then may have to consider how badly they want Danilo. It is a lot of money to spend on a player – albeit one with a very good goal record – but there is always the chance a move may not work out for any striker.

With such a high fee on his head, the Gers may have to consider other targets. Alternatively, they could test the mettle of Feyenoord by offering an improved bid – perhaps one a bit closer to the asking price but split out into several installments.

Smith, Lanning intervened in pay talks

Australia’s captains Steven Smith and Meg Lanning jointly contacted Cricket Australia to ask that the board respect the Australian Cricketers Association as the players’ collective bargaining agent

Daniel Brettig15-Feb-2017

Steven Smith, with Meg Lanning, called for an end to direct communication with the players with regards to their pay•Cricket Australia

Australia’s captains Steven Smith and Meg Lanning jointly contacted Cricket Australia to ask that the board respect the Australian Cricketers Association as the players’ collective bargaining agent, and stated that further attempts to the deal directly with the players would be a distraction from the performances of the national teams. As the board and the ACA attempt to work through drastically divergent positions over an MOU due for renewal in June, ESPNcricinfo has learned that Smith and Lanning felt compelled to write to CA chief executive James Sutherland, in a letter co-signed by their deputies David Warner and Alex Blackwell. The correspondence, delivered between the Brisbane and Melbourne Test matches against Pakistan last December, after talks between the two parties broke down, asked Sutherland that CA deal with the ACA as the players’ representative and called for ending attempts to go around the association by communicating directly with the players. The ACA confirmed the existence of the letter when contacted by ESPNcricinfo. It followed the invitation of Smith and Warner, alongside national team coach Darren Lehmann, to a dinner with the CA board directors and executives two days before the Melbourne ODI against New Zealand on December 9. That was trailed by a series of emailed communications from CA to all national and state-contracted players in Australia that sought to explain the board’s position. These included CA’s full initial submission, which stated among other things that only the top male contracted players deserved to continue to earn a fixed percentage of Australian cricket revenue. By contrast, the ACA are seeking, in a unified agreement for men and women, to expand the revenue-sharing model to include all players and also an expanded definition of that revenue. The MOU has not previously included female players.A subsequent email from team performance manager Pat Howard to the players sought to clarify the board’s pregnancy clause after it became the subject of heated argument during the Gabba Test against Pakistan. That email, in which Howard reiterated his view that he did not want to see the players become “the meat in the sandwich”, was a catalyst for the national team’s leaders to indicate to Sutherland that they were feeling quite the opposite.Earlier that week, CA had suspended negotiations with the ACA on the premise that the public slanging match between the two parties had begun to use oxygen that would otherwise be occupied by the Test matches and the Big Bash League.”Cricket Australia is committed to a negotiation that is conducted in good faith between the two parties,” CA said in a statement at the time, “but will not take part in a process which seeks to draw its players into a public dispute. Players deserve the opportunity to focus on the game, rather than being distracted by a negotiation that should be conducted in a professional and confidential manner.”Sutherland had previously kept at arm’s length from MOU negotiations, leaving them largely to CA’s head of strategy and people Kevin Roberts, head of team performance Howard, and David Peever, the CA chairman. Peever, an advocate of industrial relations reform when he was managing director of the mining giant Rio Tinto, has also involved his own IR advisor Ken Bacon.Smith and Lanning’s letter confirmed beyond doubt that the players were not wavering in their stance alongside the ACA, and that they wished to see negotiations resume in a more constructive manner. When Sutherland next spoke publicly about the breakdown in talks, he offered the most conciliatory words from the board in some weeks.”I think the facts of the matter are that both organisations have a lot more in common than they have not, and from that perspective, it’s all in the interest of the game, ensuring the game’s better,” Sutherland told ABC Radio during the Boxing Day Test. This week, Sutherland said the two parties still have an enormous amount of ground to cover. “I don’t think we’re close to a resolution,” he said. “We’ve got to work through a process of discussion on all sorts of different issues, there’s an agreement with a whole lot of different components to it.”Perhaps a little more complicated than it has been before where we’re wanting to professionalise the women’s game even more and to make sure there’s one collective agreement for men and women, so all those things need to be stepped through. We’ve got plenty of time, but at the same time, there are plenty of things to discuss. We’re down to it and we’ll progress, I’m confident of that.”

Leicestershire have signed New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi as a replacement overseas player for Sharjeel Khan, who was last month charged with corruption by the PCBPakistan opener Sharjeel had been due to appear for Leicestershire in this year’s NatWest T20 Blast before he was provisionally suspended during the PSL for alleged breaches of the PCB’s anti-corruption code. A tribunal has been formed to examine the case against Sharjeel and Khalid Latif but could take up to three months from the date of the players’ suspension to have its first hearing. The county said in a statement: “The contractual status of Sharjeel Khan is a private matter between Leicestershire CCC and the player, and so unfortunately it is not something that we are able to comment on at this stage.”Ronchi, who has previously played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset, will instead join Clint McKay as one of Leicestershire’s two overseas signings. He is expected to be available for the whole of the Blast.”I am delighted to have signed with Leicestershire Foxes for the NatWest T20 Blast,” Ronchi said. “I love playing county cricket and can’t wait to get started with my new team-mates. It seems like an exciting time at the club with a few personnel changes and talented additions to the squad. I hope I can make a difference both on and off the field and contribute to a successful campaign.”Wicketkeeper-batsman Ronchi has a T20 strike rate of 141.89 from 114 matches. He has played all three formats for New Zealand (having been initially capped for Australia) and is particularly experienced in white-ball internationals, featuring in every match of New Zealand’s run to the 2015 World Cup final.Leicestershire’s head coach, Pierre de Bruyn, said: “We’re delighted to sign Luke, who will offer power and dynamism to our batting line-up. He has played a lot of games around the world and his experience in the shortest format of the game will also help our youngsters.”We are determined to improve in white-ball cricket in 2017 and Luke will help us to do that in NatWest T20 Blast. Luke has played for a very good New Zealand side over the last few years and we are excited about him joining us in July.”

Liverpool: Contacts "in progress" in Salah to Al-Nassr & Al-Hilal update

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is piquing the interest of Saudi Arabian clubs, Rudy Galetti has told GIVEMESPORT.

What is the latest transfer news regarding Mohamed Salah?

Bizarrely, Saudi Arabian football official Hafez Al-Medlej wants the 31-year-old join the new-look Saudi Pro League along with the other footballing superstars that have headed to the Far East, as he stated:

"We must also start working on the signing of Mohamed Salah since he is overwhelmingly popular in the Arab world and in Europe, I think Salah still has records to break with Liverpool, so I hope that if he doesn’t come now he will in the future" Al-Medlej told Koura (via AS).

Liverpool's Mo Salah

Since Salah joined the Reds in the summer of 2017, he has gone on to become one of the greatest Premier League attackers in history, scoring 137 goals and assisting 62 in 218 games.

The forward signed a new contract with Liverpool in the summer of 2022 which extended the forward's stay on Merseyside until 2025.

So, what is Rudy Galetti's update on Mohamed Salah?

When asked about the future of the Liverpool star, Galetti told GIVEMESPORT: "For sure, he's attracted the attention of Saudi Arabian clubs. Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, at the moment, are the clubs that have shown the greatest interest in Mohamed Salah. Contacts are in progress and both clubs are trying to understand if there is room for negotiation."

What are the chances of Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia?

Liverpool will be desperate to keep Salah ahead of next season as they look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was not concerned about the Egyptian leaving the club when asked in May, saying: "No worries, no. I only heard what he said but I couldn't read anything that could lead in that direction. Obviously Mo loves being here and Mo was part of it. He said apologies for what 'we' did – not apologies for 'what the other guys did, but I had to go with them'. It is all fine. If ever a player would come to me and said, 'oh, we didn't qualify for the Champions League, I have to leave', I would drive him to the other club myself."

mohammed-salah-liverpool-manchester-united

The forward has broken plenty of records in his time at Liverpool, becoming the club's record Premier League goalscorer last season, and is closing in on some records held by some of the all-time Premier League greats which may be a reason for the Egyptian to turn down offers this summer.

Liverpool have made two signings this window in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and with heavy links to Romeo Lavia and Khephren Thuram, its clear the Reds are making a big push to return to their previous heights, which may well convince Salah to stick around and challenge for the top honours again.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Samuel Chukwueze but nothing has really materialised and it would come as a surprise if those links have anything to do with what would be a shock Mohamed Salah departure.
