Decision taken by the outgoing KSCA management, with the new administration expected to consider further action against the franchise

The outgoing administration of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has suspended the Belagavi Panthers franchise as well its owner Ali Asfak Thara, who has been arrested on charges of alleged betting on Karnataka Premier League (KPL) games, from the T20 league.The decision was taken by the outgoing managing committee of the KSCA on Tuesday and the new administration, which will take charge after the association elections on Thursday, will consider further action against the franchise, including possibly terminating the existing contract.Last month, Thara was arrested by the Karnataka Police’s crime branch for alleged betting during this season’s KPL.Thara was also co-owner of the Kerala Knights franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, and reports suggest that the league has dissociated itself from him after he was booked for gambling under the Karnataka Police Act. The police have said that Thara was “indulging in betting during the matches”. He remains in custody, and the police are likely to file a chargesheet against him soon.According to Sudhakar Rao, the outgoing KSCA secretary, the decision has been conveyed to the Panthers management orally. “We have to take [some] action. At the moment we have suspended the franchise and the owner,” Rao told ESPNcricinfo.According to Rao, the KSCA felt it had to send a message that there was zero tolerance toward corruption in the KPL. “This is a precautionary measure we have taken so that others should not follow these steps.”Any “severe” action including terminating the contract with the Panthers would only be taken by the new KSCA administration if and when the police conclusively establish Thara’s involvement in corruption in the KPL. “If we get the details (on the police investigation) in writing then we can take severe action against those franchisees or players or whoever is involved,” Rao said.

وكشفت الصحيفة بأن لامين يامال كان يمكنه بحركة بسيطة وهي عقد ذراعيه، أن يوقف المباراة، وفقًا لبروتوكول الفيفا لمكافحة العنصرية، المعمول به منذ أغسطس الماضي في جميع أنحاء العالم.

البروتوكول له ثلاثة مستويات، الأول يؤكد الحكم حدوث الواقعة العنصرية، ويسجلها بعد عقد اللاعب ذراعيه، ويحدد الحكم بنفسه او من خلال مساعده إذا كان قريبًا من الزاوية التي أطلقت منها الجماهير الهتافات العنصرية بسبب ضجيج الملعب.

في حالة أن أوقف الحكم المباراة وعاد لاستكمالها بعد ذلك، يمكنه أن يذهب للمستوى الثاني من البروتوكول عندما يستمر السلوك العنصري، ويأمر الفريقين بالعودة إلى غرفة تبديل الملابس، مثلما حدث في مباراة ريال مدريد وأتلتيكو مدريد بالديربي على ملعب واندا ميتروبوليتانو.

المستوى الثالث والأخير، هو إذا استمر هذا السلوك بعد استئناف المباراة، يقوم الحكم بإنهاء المباراة، بعد التشاور مع مراقب اللقاء ومساعديه، وإذا رأى أن ذلك آمن.

اللاعب الذي تعرض للحادث العنصري، سواء لامين يامال أو رافينها أو أنسة فاتي، لم يفعلوا ذلك، مما جعل المباراة تستمر، لولا سماع تلك الهتافات من خلال بعض التسجيلات عقب نهاية اللقاء.

The January transfer window slammed shut for business for Celtic at the start of last month but that has not stopped them from selling players to other continents.

Forward Liel Abada was sold to MLS side Charlotte FC for a reported fee of £10m earlier this month, which represented a big profit on the £3.5m the club paid to sign him under Ange Postecoglou in the summer of 2021.

The Israel international had not been playing regularly for the Hoops due to the 'ongoing conflict in the Middle East', which manager Brendan Rodgers cited as being part of the player's personal issues that restricted his involvement on the pitch.

Celtic moving him on outside of a transfer window means that they do not have the chance to sign a replacement from another club. However, current B team star Corey Thomson could emerge as a surprise replacement for the 22-year-old whiz.

The right-sided forward moved on from Parkhead after a return of 29 goals and 22 assists in 112 appearances for the Scottish giants in all competitions.

As you can see in the table above, the electric attacker caught the eye under Postecoglou's management in the Scottish Premiership last term, with 15 combined goals and assists despite only starting 13 league matches.

He made a big impact as a scorer of goals – with one strike every 3.4 Premiership outings on average – and Rodgers could replace that goal threat by bringing Thomson into the first-team.

Despite only turning 18 in December of last year, the impressive gem has been a regular for Celtic B in the Lowland League over the last two seasons.

During the 2022/23 campaign, the teenage marksman contributed with a return of six goals and zero assists in 25 league games for the young Hoops, which is one strike every 4.1 outings on average.

He also ended the campaign with a stunning goal against Rangers, as shown in the clip below, in the Scottish Youth Cup, as Thomson superbly cut inside and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

The Scotland U18 international has improved his output in front of goal in the Lowland League so far during the 2023/24 campaign with seven goals and one assist in 20 clashes.

This means that Thomson has averaged a goal every 2.9 league matches this season for Celtic B, which is more frequently than Abada found the back of the net in the Premiership under Postecoglou last term.

The Livingston-born starlet, who can play on either wing or through the middle as an attacking midfielder, has showcased his ability to score goals on a regular basis from a wide position over the last two seasons.

MSK Prasad, in all likelihood India’s outgoing chief selector, has hinted that “constitutional changes” within the board might have diminished the travelling selector’s role in a few contentious selection calls in overseas Tests.Prasad was specifically asked if he was involved in the dropping of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara during the tours of South Africa and England respectively. He suggested all they could do was “show faith” in the decisions made by team management.Usually, selectors pick the squad and the team management selects the final XI, but Prasad’s comments suggest there used to be flexibility around it with the travelling selector’s views taken into account.”I don’t want to talk too much about those two things but all I can say is that there were some constitutional changes that were made at that time with regards to selectors playing a role in picking the playing XI on tour,” Prasad told . “But we had to show faith in the decisions that the team management took at that point of time.”Rahane was benched for the Cape Town and Centurion Tests, both of which India lost. In the final Test, in Johannesburg, he made a crucial 48 in a low-scoring game – on a pitch subsequently rated “poor” by the ICC – as India won to keep the series scoreline to 2-1.Pujara was left out for the first Test in England on a dry Edgbaston surface, which India lost by 31 runs. Brought back for the remainder of the series, he scored a second-innings half-century at Trent Bridge and another hundred in Southampton. It's all been rather doom and gloom for Chelsea over the course of Mauricio Pochettino's first season in charge.

A lack of consistency, notably in the Premier League, has left fans incredibly frustrated after such hefty spending during the Todd Boehly era to date.

But hey, it's not all a case of negativity, right? The Blues have reached the Carabao Cup final and will travel to Wembley again before too long where an FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City awaits.

However, before then, preparation is required. Perhaps some time to regather over the international break will have served the Argentine manager well. But, how did those of a Chelsea persuasion fare for their countries?

How Chelsea players fared during the international break

Plenty of contracted players at Stamford Bridge have been off galivanting across the world in the last week or so.

Conor Gallagher stayed closer to home, starting in England's defeat to Brazil alongside. Ben Chilwell started against Belgium but sadly their club colleague Cole Palmer failed to earn any minutes.

That's a rather bewildering point considering his immense form this season, scoring 11 Premier League goals. That said, Pochettino surely won't complain about a bit of rest for his star man.

There was a goal for midfielder Enzo Fernandez in Argentina's 3-0 win over El Salvador, minutes for Marc Cucurella in a Spain jersey, while Mykhailo Mudryk helped Ukraine qualify for the European Championships.

The speedster scored a crucial goal in a clash with Iceland on Tuesday night as they sealed their place in Germany this forthcoming summer.

That said, we've failed to mention the real winner of this international break; Noni Madueke.

Noni Madueke's performances for England U21s

Madueke has endured a rather mixed spell in London since moving from PSV Eindhoven.

So far this season the 22-year-old has played just 12 times in the Premier League, of which only four of those outings have come from the start. That said, six goal involvements have been registered in the 22 games he's featured in, meaning an impression of sorts has been made.

Madueke notably impressed off the bench against Leicester City in the FA Cup over a week ago, scoring late into the tie.

With Raheem Sterling missing a penalty and taking quite possibly one of the worst free-kicks we've seen, there have been rather understandable cries for the youngster to start instead.

Well, Pochettino surely can't ignore him any longer after dropping what Sofascore rated as a 10/10 performance for England U21s against Luxembourg U21s in midweek.

The London-born attacker started the game on the right and captured the imagination, scoring twice in a 7-0 rout. Madueke opened the scoring and then found England's fourth of the night, sending a message to his boss back at Chelsea in the process.

Amassing a mammoth eight shots in the contest, the spritely young winger also supplied three key passes and completed five dribbles.

The opposition wasn't exactly great but the £30m summer signing has shown on the odd occasion for Chelsea this term that he can twist and turn defenders with great ease. This was certainly the case on Tuesday, producing an utterly flawless performance.

After a swashbuckling display on the international stage at youth level, Pochettino must give him a run of games. Chelsea have little to play for in the league and youth must be entrusted. Forget about Sterling, Madueke is the future.

Na temporada 2021, o Vila Nova tem 18 jogos. São nove vitórias, seis empates e três derrotas, com 25 gols marcados – média de 1,38 por jogo – e 12 sofridos – 0,66 a cada compromisso.​ Além do vice-campeonato do Goiano, a equipe eliminou Atlético-BA e Juventude na Copa do Brasil e vai enfrentar o Bahia na próxima fase.

Apesar do pouco número de gols, a defesa do Vila Nova tem uma dificuldade chave contra os adversários: a bola aérea. Seja em todos os tipos, faltas cobradas em direção à área, escanteios e até mesmo quando o atacante é acionado em jogo direto para disputar no alto com o defensor.

– O Vila sofreu muitos gols de bolas aéreas. Apesar de ter dois zagueiros com boa estatura, Rafael Donato e Saimon, o time sofre com bolas de paradas. Inclusive, o gol do Grêmio Anápolis na final do Goiano foi justamente em uma falta de longe que resultou em um gol de cabeça – analisou o jornalista.

Dos 12 gols levados pelo Vila na temporada 2021, sete têm relação com bolas aéreas: três de escanteio, um de cruzamento com a bola rolando, dois de faltas batidas em direção área e um que o zagueiro perde uma disputa aérea com o atacante após uma reposição do goleiro e outro jogador do adversário sai “cara a cara” com o goleiro.

A equipe de Wagner Lopes também cometeu três pênaltis na temporada 2021: dois viraram gols para os adversários e um foi defendido pelo goleiro Georgemy.

– O ponto forte vem sendo o meio-campo, que marca bem e tem força. Tem jogadores jovens, o Dudu foi o destaque do Campeonato Goiano, o Arthur Rezende tem qualidade no passe e o Alan Mineiro precisa de uma bola para decidir um jogo. O ataque é até criticado porque o meio cria muitas chances mas o time desperdiça muito – completou Paulo.

REENCONTRO COM KELVIN
A partida também marca o encontro do Botafogo com um rosto conhecido: Kelvin, que fez parte da campanha do rebaixamento na última temporada. Uma das contratações feitas da gestão anterior mais contestadas pela torcida, o atleta saiu do clube sem nenhuma participação direta em gol e foi afastado dos jogos antes mesmo do contrato acabar.

No Vila Nova, contudo, o atacante passa por um período individual diferente. Titular de Wagner Lopes, Kelvin foi importante na campanha do Goiano, com três gols marcados.

– Ele chegou tendo que fazer um trabalho de recondicionamento físico. Ficou um tempo fora, foi ganhando espaço aos poucos e tem sido titular nos últimos jogos. Apesar do Vila não ter ganho o Goiano, o Kelvin foi um dos caras que não foi criticado pela torcida. Um dos jogadores que tiveram boas atuações no campeonato, com três gols marcados. Tem tido uma sequência, sendo um desafogo pelas beiradas. Tem contribuído para o ataque do Vila – analisou.
