Dificultam nosso jogo – afirmou.

A Seleção volta a treinar nesta terça-feira, às 15h30, no CT Joaquim Grava. O Brasil enfrenta o Peru nesta quinta-feira (9), às 21h30, na Arena Pernambuco.

When should BCCI launch the women's IPL? 'Probably yesterday' – Lisa Sthalekar

“The India contracted players don’t know when they’re playing next, that’s a massive concern”

Sruthi Ravindranath20-Nov-2020

‘The reason why Australian cricket has been going so well in the women’s game is because we’ve invested in it’•Getty Images

Lisa Sthalekar feels the BCCI should have launched a full-fledged IPL-style women’s league “probably yesterday”. While the Indian board has been heading in the “right direction” vis-à-vis women’s cricket, it has been “quite slow” to move on a women’s IPL, Sthalekar stressed, and “the fact that the India contracted players don’t know when they’re playing next, that’s a massive concern”.”The reason why Australian cricket has been going so well in the women’s game is because we’ve invested in it.” Sthalekar, former Australia captain and commentator, said during a digital workshop about women in news and sport. “I still remember the first year we [Women’s Big Bash League] went to eight teams. We had only six teams in state cricket so we extended it by two.”ALSO READ: What’s next for India women?Much of the BCCI’s reluctance to roll out an IPL-style women’s league has historically been down to the perceived lack of depth in the domestic pool of players. While the WBBL, currently is in its sixth season, has gone from strength to strength and assumed standalone status last year, the Indian board is yet to expand the Women’s T20 Challenge (WT20C), which began in 2018 as a one-off exhibition match and has since involved three teams contesting in a total of four games.”I heard the argument in India that we don’t have the depth – we [Australia] didn’t think we had the depth at that time. Maybe things were a bit weaker to start with. Now look what’s happening. More and more girls pick up bat and the ball. We’re seeing quality teams where we’re already in the 42nd match of the season and we don’t know who’s going to make the final. It says that you [have] got to take a bit of a gamble but when is the right time to do anything? Probably yesterday.”The Indian women’s team, meanwhile, was expected to ride the wave of increased interest and viewership in the wake of a runners-up finish at the T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this year, and a four-team WT20C seemed to be on the cards. But the Covid-19 pandemic not only put paid to those plans, it led to cancellation of several bilateral series. As such, India have not played any international cricket since the T20 World Cup final against Australia on March 8 and could next take the field only early next year, if the proposed tour of Australia goes ahead.”I think they (BCCI) are moving in the right direction but everyone’s quite slow to actually form women’s IPL, to provide enough matches,” Sthalekar said. “I know the pandemic and what the situation is like in India, but the fact that the India contracted players don’t know when they’re playing next, that’s a massive concern. They’ve just played a T20 World Cup final. They’re going to fall behind. I feel they’re the biggest untapped market and if they get it right the Indian women are going to dominate.”Innovations at the BBL – ‘I’m not a fan’
The latest Big Bash League innovations – Power Surge, X-Factor and Bash Boost – have divided opinion sharply, and Sthalekar was clear that she was “not a fan” of them, and highlighted that the women’s game did not need any such innovations.”I don’t think we need to be so innovative. I’ve just come back from the IPL [after a commentary stint]. We had a double-Super Over, we had a weekend full of Super Overs. I mean, you’re going to get one-sided affairs every now and then. The T20 game was to purely bring in a new audience, predominantly younger families and females, let’s be honest. Now you’re bringing in all these rules. Why are we making it more complicated than what it needs to be? I’m not a fan,” she argued. “As for the WBBL, we’re starting to see big enough scores. As long as the pitches and the decks have pace and bounce, we are going to see decent scores.”The Women’s T20 challenge, unfortunately it was a short turnaround and had low, slow wickets, hardly those girls training and it wasn’t the best advertisement for the game. I think in the WBBL, we’ve got it right. We can probably change rules slightly but they won’t change it because they keep the rules similar to international cricket, which I think is the right thing to do.”Why can’t we talk about Kimmince and Harris?
At ESPNcricinfo, we have been discussing the subject of same-sex relationships in cricket, and the fact that women cricketers have traditionally been more comfortable coming out when compared to their male counterparts. Sthalekar stressed that the conversation around homosexuality needed to be normalised within the sport, much more than has been the case.”There certainly seems to be more acceptance in women’s sport to be comfortable sharing that. Again, I think Australia’s leading the way. There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done around the world. It needs to be seen as okay,” she said. “If you watch the coverage, we don’t make a big deal out of it. It is what it is, and we just move on.”We talk about it because if we’re going to talk about Alyssa Healy and Mitchell Starc why can’t we talk about Delissa Kimmince and Laura Harris? It should be part of the normal conversation.”

Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool hold talks to sign £60,000-a-week star for Slot

Liverpool have held talks with an "unbelievable" player over a summer move to Anfield, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, but there is a potential stumbling block.

Liverpool transfer news

It is going to be fascinating to see who the Reds sign in the summer transfer window, with Arne Slot in as new manager and the likes of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes coming in to drive the club's recruitment.

A worrying "multi-million" offer for Alisson from Saudi Arabia has reportedly emerged recently, and should the Brazilian make a shock departure from Anfield ahead of next season, Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is seen as an ideal replacement. The 23-year-old has shone for Georgia at Euro 2024 and is a 'keeper with huge potential.

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has also emerged as an option for Liverpool, with contact made for the England international who is a boyhood Reds supporter, and he could be considered an ideal choice to come in for Luis Diaz, should the Colombian suddenly complete a summer move to Barcelona.

The Merseysiders have also reportedly enquired about Real Madrid's highly-rated teenager Arda Guler, but president Florentino Perez is reluctant to sell such a prized asset. A loan move is mooted, but it doesn't feel too likely at this stage.

Liverpool hold talks to sign "unbelievable" attacker

Taking to X on Saturday, Romano said that Liverpool have held talks with Newcastle over a summer switch for Gordon after their aforementioned contact. Still, the deal is only likely if the Magpies drop their asking price:

"Liverpool appreciate Anthony Gordon, talks took place with Newcastle in the last 48h but NO agreement on the fee/value. The only way to re-activate the option is if Newcastle drop price…or no chance. NUFC prefer to sell other players like Minteh rather than Gordon."

Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak

It does appear as though Gordon could be open to sealing a summer transfer to Liverpool, given his ties to the club, and he has come on so much as a footballer in the past year or so that he could be a brilliant addition. Reports from Football Insider have even claimed that he could have a Liverpool medical in Germany while at Euro 2024, should an agreement be reached.

The £60,000-a-week attacker registered 21 goal contributions (11 goals and 10 assists) in 34 appearances in the Premier League last season, while Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes has called him "unbelievable". Similarly, Eddie Howe has waxed lyrical about his player, hailing his attitude:

"From day one when he arrived at the club, you could see the passion he had and his desire to achieve and be successful. He puts the work in every day and sometimes we have to go and get him off the training pitch. Up against a very good defender today in [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka he was very good again, physically he was so good today. It was a really good battle between the two of them. I am delighted he is scoring the goals now and getting the recognition he deserves."

Chelsea ready to rival Liverpool for £27.5m star who's Havertz 2.0

They are trying to hijack Liverpool’s move

ByJoe Nuttall Jun 29, 2024

Whether Liverpool manage to strike a deal for Gordon remains to be seen – it looks unlikely, as things stand – but at 23, there is a lot more to come from him, and he could offer more attacking end product down the left flank.

Arsenal looking at £94m dream Saka teammate who’s "the best 9 in the world"

Arsenal might have ended the campaign without a trophy to show for it, but by making it into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and pushing Manchester City to the final day of the Premier League, they showed that they are here to stay for some time.

There were star performers throughout Mikel Arteta's team, but Bukayo Saka was one of the real standouts, as has been the case for years now.

The Englishman had his best season to date in terms of goals and assists and did so without a prolific number nine in the team, but based on recent reports, that could be about to change.

Arsenal's striker search

According to a recent report from Spain, Arsenal have set their sights on Inter Milan star Lautaro Martínez this summer.

Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez

The report claims that the Argentine has caught the attention of several Premier League sides and that if he does not sign a new deal, he'll be available for around €110m, which is £94m, thanks to a termination clause in his current contract.

It would undoubtedly represent a massive investment into the team from Stan Kroenke, but based on Martínez's unreal form over the last few seasons, one worth making, especially as he could help Saka reach another level entirely.

Why Martínez would be a dream teammate for Saka

Now, there are two reasons why Martínez would be an excellent teammate for Saka, and the first is quite simple: his goals.

Lautaro Martinez Chelsea target Poch

In 44 appearances last season, the World Cup winner, who renowned football podcaster Angelo Valdes described as "the best 9 in the world," found the back of the net on 27 occasions, meaning he averaged a goal every 1.6 games for Inter.

His impressive tally would make him the top goalscorer at Arsenal, ahead of Saka, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, and, in turn, this would help the Englishman boost his already impressive haul of 14 assists.

That brings us to the second reason the 26-year-old would be a brilliant teammate for the Hale End gem: his creativity.

While his primary job at the San Siro is to get on the end of balls supplied by teammates, the former Racing Club prospect provides plenty of chances for others to score as well and has racked up 18 assists in the last two campaigns.

This ability to play creator would make him the perfect striker for the Gunners' poster boy, who in the last few seasons has dramatically increased his goalscoring abilities and now has 58 senior goals to his name in 226 appearances.

Ultimately, signing Martínez would undoubtedly represent a significant investment, but it would likely be worth it based on how well he has played in the last few years. Moreover, his potential link-up play with Saka could be the final ingredient Arsenal need to get over the line and end their two-decade title drought next season.

Arsenal struck gold on sensational star who's worth more than Nico Williams

Trent Boult: Staying in bio-secure bubbles 'a big sacrifice'

New Zealand quick feels such a lifestyle is going to play a big role in the way players plan their schedules

Vishal Dikshit23-Nov-2020

New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult has joined the list of big names to voice concerns about life in bio-secure bubbles, saying such a lifestyle is going to play a “big role” in the way players plan their schedules as the international calendar picks up after IPL 2020. Boult is looking ahead to a busy New Zealand summer, having landed in the country on November 12 after winning the IPL with the Mumbai Indians, which kept him away from home for nearly three months. He is currently serving a 14-day quarantine in Christchurch.”I can’t speak for everyone but it’s definitely going to play a big role in the game,” Boult told ESPNcricinfo when asked whether players will be forced to pick and choose series because of bio-bubble rules going forward. “Having to come back to New Zealand you have to spend two weeks in a hotel before you can even be let out. It’s crazy what the world is facing at the moment, it’s almost surreal, and it’s going to be a hard one to say what guys are feeling and what they’re able to do. Speaking from playing in the IPL I’ve just been to, it’s brilliant to be back out on the field and offer something for everyone to watch and it was closely followed all around the world.”ALSO READ: Kagiso Rabada on biosecure bubbles: ‘It’s almost like luxury prisons we are in’New Zealand’s next assignment is a home T20I series against West Indies starting November 27 for which Boult has been rested. He will feature in the Tests from December 3 in Hamilton. After finishing isolation on November 26, Boult will get a few days with his family before he joins the Test squad.”Ya, I think it’s going to be a tough one to forecast,” Boult said. “Having experienced three and a half months away from my young family – I have two young boys and a wife back home whom I haven’t seen – so you can imagine it’s a big sacrifice to just pack up and leave for a quarter of the year and looking at potential tours next year, there’s potential to be away for nine to ten months.”Boult is currently in Managed Isolation Quarantine (MIQ) like the other New Zealand players who returned from the IPL in the UAE. They spent their first three days in isolation and started training at the sports MIQ facility from November 16 after negative Covid-19 test results. Boult has been training there with bowling coach Shane Bond, who was also with him in the Mumbai dressing room during the IPL.Bond had recently said it was “important” to give Boult a break before the summer in which New Zealand are also scheduled to play Pakistan in December-January for three T20Is and two Tests, before they host Australia in February.”I think it’s important [Boult gets a break],” Bond said last week. “He’s got a couple of young kids. To fly out from here and go straight into games and not have a chance to catch up with his family would have been a massive mistake.”I suppose part of him being here is to get a little bit more volume, in terms of his overs, under his belt. It’s always a challenge when you’re in the IPL – it’s stinking hot, you don’t train as much, and obviously you’re playing a game that’s four overs. So it gives him a little bit of time to get some volume here and in the week, two weeks before the Test matches start against the West Indies.”I think for his own sanity, he just would need to get home and spend a little bit of time with his family before he has another busy summer, so it’s a good decision.”Boult is not the first big international player to show concern about living in bio-bubble environments. David Warner said earlier on Monday the last six months had been “very challenging” as players tried to get used to living in bubbles without their families while being restrained to team hotels and then serving a quarantine period on return. South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada – while comparing biosecure bubbles with “luxury prisons” – said the experience can be “quite tough because you are surrounded by four walls the whole time and that can be a factor mentally”.Starting November 27, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa all face busy summers as Australia host India for a full tour, and South Africa host England for T20Is and ODIs, and Sri Lanka for Tests.

So far, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have landed six signings, which have cost Chelsea around £93 million in total. This includes deals for defender Tosin Adarabioyo (free), striker Marc Guiu, homegrown starlet Omari Kellyman, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Portuguese ace Renato Veiga – who all put pen to paper on moves to west London.

Chelsea have also signed rising Brazilian star Estevao Willian for an initial £29 million, which could rise to around £51 million with add-ons (Nizaar Kinsella), but the South American talent won't link up with Maresca's side until 2025.

Stewart and Winstanley also remain in the market for a new winger to compete with, or even replace, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk. Chelsea are targeting Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi for this role, and Boehly had also attempted to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace before he opted for a move to Bayern Munich.

The Blues could yet reinforce more positions as well, like at centre-forward. Maresca has reportedly made it clear he wants a new Chelsea striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, and a move for one has not yet been ruled out by reliable media sources.

There is also the possibility of Chelsea adding yet more exciting talents to their books as they have with the likes of Guiu, Kellyman, Veiga and Estevao this window. Indeed, one highly-rated young player they've held talks for is Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.

Chelsea have been in negotiations with Boca to sign Anselmino for a while now, with reports originally suggesting the Argentine's contract included a £20 million release clause which Boehly and co were trying to whittle down.

Deal in place as Chelsea close in on Aaron Anselmino signing

The Athletic, sharing news this week, have an update on Chelsea's pursuit of the 19-year-old. It is believed everything is in place for Chelsea to complete a deal for Anselmino, with the agreement worth around £17 million plus add-ons. The club is planning to loan Anselmino back out to Boca for an initial six months, which will be looked at again when the Argentine league ends in December.

The teenage defender is very highly-rated and all signs point towards the notion that Chelsea have secured yet another promising starlet to watch out for.

Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, an expert on the beautiful game's most eye-catching youngsters, likened Anselmino to Tottenham star Cristian Romero and called him a "complete" centre-half.
