Recheado de desfalques, o técnico Diego Aguirre definiu a lista dos 20 relacionados do São Paulo para o duelo contra o Internacional, na próxima terça (5), às 21h30, no Morumbi. Depois de perder para o Palmeiras, por 3 a 1, no último fim de semana, o Tricolor tenta a reabilitação no Brasileirão.

O comandante são-paulino terá oito desfalques para encarar o Colorado. São eles: Rodrigo Caio (cirurgia no pé esquerdo), Nenê e Bruno Alves, suspensos pelo terceiro cartão amarelo, Valdívia (cláusula contratual o impede de enfrentar o Internacional, seu ex-clube), Gonzalo Carneiro e Morato (recondicionamento físico), Cueva (seleção peruana) e Brenner (período de treinos com a seleção brasileira).

Além deles, Aguirre também não poderá contar com o meia-atacante Marcos Guilherme, titular do Tricolor na última rodada. Embora o jogador ainda tenha contrato de empréstimo com o clube, já fez seis partidas neste Brasileirão e retorna para o Atlético-PR. Dez segundos foram o suficiente para que o Bahia tirasse os três pontos das mãos do Botafogo, no último domingo, pelo Campeonato Brasileiro. A vitória na Arena Fonte Nova parecia garantida, mas os mandantes fizeram o gol do empate em 3 a 3 já no lance derradeiro. A sensação, conforme dito por Moisés e Alberto Valentim, é de um “sabor amargo”.

Desde quarta-feira, aliás, esta é a sensação que está presente na garganta do torcedor alvinegro. No entanto, diferente do ocorrido contra o lanterna Ceará, em casa, o time de Valentim teve uma atuação exemplar em Salvador. O resultado, o mesmo. A atuação, muito diferente. A começar pela postura.

Diante de um Bahia sem confiança, o Botafogo optou pela marcação intermediária e pressão para recuperar a bola dos rivais ainda em seu campo de ataque. Em boa parte do duelo, a estratégia deu certo, até pela entrega tática – Rodrigo Pimpão, de volta ao time titular, e Valencia, novamente por dentro, colaboraram consideravelmente com os volantes Matheus Fernandes e Rodrigo Lindoso na fase defensiva.

O empate foi uma infelicidade, porém a atuação serviu de alento para que o Glorioso vença o trôpego Atlético-PR na quarta-feira e pare para a Copa do Mundo em paz com a sua torcida, que precisa ver um time mais regular e seguro no Brasileiro.

The partnership of 102 between Tino Mawayo and Vusi Sibanda is Zimbabwe’s 11th century partnership for the first wicket in Tests, and their first since January 2002.

Sibanda’s 78 is his maiden Test fifty, and by far his highest score – he had scored 48 runs in his previous six innings put together.

Hamilton Masakadza’s unbeaten 88 is his second-highest Test score in 31 innings – he needs 31 more to equal his best.

It’s only the eighth time in Zimbabwe’s Test history that their No.4 batsman has come to the crease with more than 150 runs on the board.

The average opening stand in Tests against Bangladesh is 53.10, which is the highest among all teams.

Zimbabwe’s top four ensured that their return to Test cricket was impressive as they achieved a balance between aggression and caution. Hamilton Masakadza scored a fluent, unbeaten 88 after debutant Tino Mawoyo and Vusi Sibanda had put on a century first-wicket stand and laid a solid base for the rest to build on.Bangladesh’s bowlers were inconsistent throughout the day, struggled with their lines and lengths and gave the batsmen the luxury of choosing which deliveries to leave and which to play. As a unit, they posed little threat to the batsmen, with the seam bowlers and the left-arm spinners failing to be penetrative and losing motivation as a result.Mawoyo had a few nerves at the start, which were exposed when he was almost run out in a moment of impulsion; but he settled soon after and showed remarkable poise and patience in his innings. His first runs came with a classy upper cut and a pair of delicious drives. Sibanda took a little longer to settle in but once he did, and was able to put his drive on display, he was almost unstoppable. The Zimbabwe openers were helped by the fact that Bangladesh’s seamers failed to exploit the movement on offer early on.Shafiul Islam bowled with discipline up front and maintained a challenging length but his new-ball partner Robiul Islam was often too short. The only wicket-taker of the innings, Rubel Hossain, got some movement but was unable to use it to claim any scalps, his two strikes coming from wayward shots rather than attacking bowling.Bangladesh turned to spin in the 13th over with Shakib bringing himself on and getting a surprising amount of turn. Zimbabwe were wary of the threat of left-arm spin and handled him with caution, being careful not to go forward too much. They smothered the spin of both Shakib and Abdur Razzak and in so doing crafted a base from which to push on. By the time lunch was approaching, they had offered the bowlers no chances and only a lapse in concentration caused Mawoyo to chase a short and wide ball. When he was caught at deep backward point, he ended a partnership that, in some ways, mirrored the century first-wicket stand of Kevin Arnott and Grant Flower in Zimbabwe’s first Test in 1992, the main difference being that Arnott and Flower took much longer to reach the hundred mark.Bangladesh showed more intent after lunch, with two edges off the bat of Sibanda going the way of second slip, one put down and the other not carrying. They bowled with a little more zip for the first half an hour but as the Zimbabwe batsman got comfortable the bowlers were demoralised. Sibanda’s driving was moving into fifth gear and Masakadza’s strong defence and positive attack presented a combination that was too formidable for Bangladesh. The visitors finally captured another wicket midway through the second session when Sibanda hung his bat out to a short ball and got an edge through to Mushfiqur Rahim.Masakadza was unruffled, illustrating why he is regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most-improved players. His innings was defined by his drives but he pulled with confidence and also worked the ball well on the leg side. With the ultra-cautious Brendan Taylor at the other end, Masakadza had the freedom to play his shots, which he did not abuse.In his first innings as captain, Taylor was watchful. He slipped up only once, when he slashed hard and was almost caught behind but for the most part he was sedate and happy to play a supporting role. He and Masakadza did a fine job of accumulating runs by taking singles, helped by the poor effort from Bangladesh in the field.Although the point region was well covered, and when the ball was hit there it usually found the fielder, runs were leaked in almost every other part of the field. Misfields were commonplace and as the shadows got longer general disinterest seemed to creep in. Balls that should have been chased with more eagerness were merely ambled after and ones that could have been saved were allowed to go through.Bangladesh took the second new ball as soon as it was on offer but with conditions not as favourable as they were in the morning, they could hardly hope to make use of it. Shafiul had a confident shout for lbw against Taylor in his first over with the new ball but it was given not out. Replays showed that it could have gone over the stumps or down leg. Robiul was again inaccurate and all but wasted the new cherry as the Bangladesh bowlers dragged themselves through the final minutes of play, perhaps weighed down by the many things they will have to work on before the second day.

Ricky Ponting believes the elevation of Australia’s captain to a formal place at the selection table will eradicate communication problems between the players and the selectors.Ahead of his first Test match since relinquishing the captaincy, Ponting has revealed he spent the entire term of his leadership arguing for the selection rights that have now been bestowed upon his successor Michael Clarke, in the hope that it would provide a vital link in the chain of communication between the players and those who choose them.He also rejected instances of tension between the captain and his players on past tours, saying the new arrangement was superior to the older model of the captain and coach becoming the prime selectors on tour then not having a say at home.”Absolutely no doubt in my mind [it will be an improvement],” Ponting said in Galle. “I pushed for it for seven years, for the captain to be a selector, and it’s a really positive thing for Australian cricket and certainly for our team.”Any communication breakdowns in the past could have been avoided if the captain was a selector. I know there was negativity 10-15 years ago about the captain and coach being selectors, but I think that could have been avoided with proper communication.”I just think the players would appreciate much more honest feedback from the captain and coach on their game and where they fit as far as selection is concerned, so I think it’ll work really well for us.”As part of its raft of recommendations for the betterment of Australian cricket, the Argus review pointed out the need for more “adult conversations” between the team and the selectors, and empowered the captain and the coach to be the link between the two groups.Ponting said his desire to be a selector had not stemmed from receiving teams or squads that he did not like, and was more to do with the inadequacy of his own position to converse openly with players when he did not know what had been said at selection.”It wasn’t so much that [teams I didn’t want] at all, it made it really hard for me to communicate with guys when I wasn’t a selector,” he said. “If my views were slightly different from the selectors’ then I couldn’t communicate in the right way, if that makes sense.”Several Australian tours a decade ago featured tension around the selection responsibilities of the “tour selectors”, commonly the captain, vice-captain and coach, before a member of the selection panel was regularly taken on tours.In 1997 Steve Waugh hinted that he did not want to be the man responsible for dropping his captain Mark Taylor from the team amid his lengthy form slump, while in 1999 Waugh and Shane Warne fell out badly when the legspinner and vice-captain was dropped from the team in the West Indies despite having his own vote at selection. In 2001 Michael Slater complained loudly of his treatment by Waugh when omitted for the final Test of the Ashes series at the Oval, and never played again.Ponting was in the Australian team when each of those dramas played out, and said they resulted more from the temporary, on-tour nature of the selection arrangement than the captain’s place in choosing teams.”There’s still five selectors, it’s just that the captain and coach happen to be one of those, and they’re not the sole selectors like they used to be on tour either,” Ponting said. “That was the difference back then, they were the only selectors when you were overseas. They’re just two of the five now.”I can understand those things coming up, but I think for someone like Slater his axing would have come completely out of the blue, whereas if the captain knowing his role and the way the structure will be around our team now, maybe could’ve told him four Tests beforehand that if he didn’t score runs or if things didn’t improve then there might’ve been a chance that it might happen. They’re the sort of things that I think can just be so much better around our game, and the fact we’ve gone in this direction now with the selection panel is a really positive thing for us.”

As dependências do Parque Olímpico, na Barra da Tijuca, estarão abertas durante a Copa do Mundo. Cerca de três mil jogadores de futebol, entre 7 a 15 anos, vão competir no Soccer in Rio por prêmios e troféus. Alunos deprojetos sociais também vão participar do evento esportivo. O campeonato acontecerá a partir do dia 15 de junho, das 9h às 20h, todas às quartas, sextas, sábados e domingos até primeiro de julho.

Os atletas serão divididos em nove categorias, cada uma com 32 equipes divididas em oito grupos.Cada time jogará no mínimo três partidas. Jogadores da base de clubes nacionais, como o Flamengo, e de internacionais, como o Barcelona e ParisSaint-Germain, estão confirmados. Cabe ressaltar que umaempresa especializada na seleção de atletas estará monitorando as partidas, com o objetivo de selecionar os melhores jogadores para estudarem e jogarem futebol em escolas americanas.

Paralelo ao campeonato, nos dias 20 e 27 de junho ainda haverá um torneio estudantil. Apenas escolas da rede municipal de ensino do Rio de Janeiro estarão concorrendo entre si. As melhores equipes serão selecionadas para participar da competição principal.

As quadras de tênis, onde acontecerá o evento, serão revestidas em grama sintética, cada uma nas medidas 50m x 30m.Além disso, uma praça de alimentação será montada dentro do Parque com serviços de food trucks, games eletrônicos, futebol de mesa, recreação infantil com professores, telão com transmissão dos jogos do Brasil e happy hour com shows para entreter os convidados.

Para ter acesso aos jogos será cobrado o ingresso, no valor de R$50, que deve ser adquirido na entrada do evento. Após os términos das partidas, o público pode aproveitar os serviços de entretenimento de forma gratuita.
