David Warner has promised to turn his savage switch-hit on England in the forthcoming ODI series, and believes Graeme Swann may not be the only spinner he will have the chance to try it against. Following a sprightly 74 for the Australians in their opening tour match against Leicestershire at Grace Road, Warner predicted the inclusion of Samit Patel beside Swann in England’s preferred XI for the five-match series.Alongside Kevin Pietersen, now retired from ODIs and Twenty20 internationals, Warner has shown a penchant for switch-hitting that has challenged the game’s bowlers – not to mention lawmakers – in adapting to the audacious change of stance as a spinner delivers the ball. He first showed its effectiveness in T20 club competition, before unleashing it on India’s R Ashwin in limited-overs matches in Australia last summer. Should Alastair Cook hand the ball to Swann at a time when Warner is at the crease, Australia’s combative opener suggested he would not take long in abandoning orthodoxy.”If I get the opportunity and they’re willing to put Swanny on early, I’ll definitely be playing the switch-hit,” Warner said. “It has to be a period in the game where it’s necessary for me to play it. If I find I’m bogged down a little or if I find there’s a scoring shot or I want to move a fielder, I’ll play that shot so he has two men behind point.”That’s in the back of my mind, what I want to do to manipulate the field how I want to work it. I think they might play two spinners against us, I think Patel will come in and they might only play three quicks. So it depends where we’re playing as well, but that’s what I think they’re going to do and obviously the switch-hit probably might come out.”England’s management showed their wariness of Australia, meanwhile, by dispatching the video analyst Gemma Broad to Leicester to take footage of the touring bowlers. Definitely some of us never playing before in England so they probably want a bit of footage for us, but at the end of the day they’ve got to stand up at their mark and bowl at us.”Having opened up with the wicketkeeper Matthew Wade at Grace Road, Warner was unsure whether Wade or Shane Watson would accompany him at the top of the order in the ODIs against England, or the one-off match against Ireland on Saturday that precedes them. However he felt confident of his adjustment to softer English surfaces after looking comfortable at the crease in Australia’s first match of the tour.”Obviously for my game it’s trying to pull it in a little bit because it does a lot early, especially in Durham it’s going to in the morning,” Warner said. “But I have to keep going about my game how I do, and if it requires adjustment then I’m going to adjust.”

كشفت تقارير صحفية بريطانية، عن تقديم الشيخ جاسم القطري، عرضًا جديدًا لشراء نادي مانشستر يونايتد الإنجليزي من عائلة الجليزر الأمريكية المالكة حاليًا للشياطين الحمر.

وكان الشيخ جاسم بن حمد آل ثاني قد تقدم بعرض لشراء مانشستر يونايتد، بخلاف الملياردير البريطاني الشهير السير جيم راتكليف في وقت سابق من الشهر الماضي.

وبلغت القيمة المالية لكلا العطائين حوالي 4.5 مليار جنيه إسترليني، أقل بكثير من المبلغ المطلوب من قِبل عائلة جليزر المالكة لنادي مانشستر يونايتد، حيث طالبت الأخيرة بـ6 مليارات جنيه إسترليني.

صحيفة “جارديان” البريطانية، أكدت أن الشيخ جاسم بن حمد آل ثاني، قدم عرضًا ثانيًا مساء الجمعة، ووصفته وسائل الإعلام بأنه منطقي ومدروس.

وكان الشيخ جاسم قد أكد بأن رغبته في شراء مانشستر يونايتد بطل الدوري الإنجليزي القياسي، ليست مرتبطة بالدولة القطرية، وأنما خلال مؤسسته الخاصة Nine Two، خاصة أنه من مشجعي مانشستر يونايتد منذ طفولته.

وحتى الآن لا يُعرف سوى القليل عن العرض الثاني للشيخ جاسم، ولكنه بالتأكيد أكثر من 4.5 مليار جنيه إسترليني، وربما يصل إلى الـ6 مليارات التي طلبها الجليزر، مُلاك مانشستر يونايتد الحاليين.

جدير بالذكر أن عائلة الجليزر الأمريكية، كانت قد استحوذت على الناد مقابل 750 مليون جنية إسترليني في صفقة تمت عام 2005.

Big PictureWest Indies have come out on top in this series, a progression after drawing their previous ODI assignment at home, against Australia earlier this year. A 3-1 lead, an in-form Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, an impressive return for Tino Best and Sunil Narine’s continued success augur well for the upcoming Test series for the hosts.New Zealand will be seeing a lot of Narine in the Tests, and their repeated struggles to read him will remain a worry. He’s been economical and picked up wickets, and should he play the final ODI, it presents another opportunity for New Zealand’s batsmen to find some form against him. Overall, there has been significant improvement from New Zealand in the last two ODIs; they didn’t look like beating West Indies before then, and a consolation win ahead of the Tests will ensure that improvement continues.As far as international series are concerned, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have been a saving grace for West Indies and New Zealand. The only series wins for each in both Tests and ODIs for more than two years, have come against the world’s two bottom-ranked sides. The last time either team won an ODI series against a Test-playing nation other than Bangladesh or Zimbabwe was in 2009; apply the same criteria for Test series, West Indies had their previous success in 2008-09 and New Zealand in 2005-06. Wagner, who is pushing to make his debut when the first Test starts on Wednesday, finished with 3 for 65 after he collected the wicket of Veerasammy Permaul, who fell victim to an outstanding catch from van Wyk.Vettori grabbed the last two wickets to end up with 6 for 48, but it is not the New Zealand bowling that is their major concern ahead of the first Test. After they were skittled for 149 in the first innings the visitors needed a stronger showing in the second innings to boost their confidence, but the openers Daniel Flynn and Martin Guptill both fell for single-figure scores.McCullum was more successful and put on 57 with Ross Taylor for the third wicket, but it was the team’s only half-century stand of the innings. Taylor (19) and Kane Williamson (25) fell to the spin of Shillingford, as did Dean Brownlie for 5 and Vettori for 2. A Stewart Walters century helped Glamorgan to 242 for 3 and put them in control against Essex at Colchester. He struck an unbeaten 129 and rarely played a false stroke against an Essex attack that sorely missed its spearhead David Masters, absent with a side strain.Admittedly, the pitch was of a friendly nature but that is hardly an excuse for bowling that left much to be desired in terms of length and direction.After the visitors had won the toss, Maurice Chambers did gain an early breakthrough when he had Nick James snapped up at forward short leg by Jaik Mickleburgh, but Essex had to wait until well after lunch for their next success. Walters and Will Bragg were responsible for that as they kept pace with each other with a series of well-timed strokes either side of the wicket.Bragg reached his half-century with a flowing drive through extra cover against Chambers, while Walters reached his fifty from 72 balls by straight driving Charl Willoughby to the fence in the next over. Both batsmen included nine boundaries as they reached the landmark, Bragg needing 94 balls to register his fifty.The pair had put together a stand of 107 in 28 overs to carry the total to 133 when Graham Napier ended the partnership when, half-forward, Bragg played a ball into his stumps after making 54.Walters, however, continued on his impressive way, wasting no opportunity to cut and drive as he moved into three figures with his 15th boundary, a leg side shot at the expense of Ryan ten Doeschate. The century spanned 140 deliveries.By then Marcus North had settled in well, although he was content to watch Walters do the bulk of the scoring. His contribution to a 103 stand in 25 overs was just 24 when he sliced Napier to Harbhajan Singh in the gully just two deliveries after he had been dropped low down by the same fielder.Soon afterwards, rain arrived to save the Essex bowlers from further punishment leaving Walters to resume, in the morning, an innings that has so far lasted 179 balls and brought him 20 boundaries. It also underlined his liking for the Essex attack because he went into the match with a season’s best 69 – made when the teams met at Cardiff early in May.
