Everton enjoyed a boisterous summer rebuilding Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield with the arrivals of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure to partner Andre Gomes at Goodison Park, having decided that Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies were not at the standard required.

Doucoure has since started all seven available Premier League games, as one of just four players alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina in doing so, with Ancelotti making good use of Director of Football Marcel Brands’ £20million capture.

The former Watford enforcer has brought with him all the skill displayed at Vicarage Road that led Marco Silva to covet his potential signing in a £32m deal a year prior, with Doucoure ranking first for interceptions (11), second for successful tackles (13), third for key balls (eight) and fifth for shots (five) and successful dribbles (three) in Royal Blue thus far this term, per WhoScored.

Doucoure’s debut campaign on Merseyside could arguably have not gotten off to a better start, bar his lack of scoring and only one assist, making his summer arrival a true dream outcome for Ancelotti and one that could have redefined Silva’s final months in charge.

Ancelotti may not have to wait too long for another player of Doucoure’s ilk to flourish at Goodison Park, either, as Everton’s Under 23s boss David Unsworth has been waxing lyrical over the skill he’s seen from talented teen Imam Jagne.

Jagne joined the Blues from BK Hacken in October and was instantly installed into Unsworth’s ranks, making his Toffees debut in a goalless Premier League 2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur before featuring in defeat to Manchester United.

The results have not glossed over the efforts Jagne has put in, as Unsworth believes the 17-year-old has all the hallmarks of a player capable of carrying out any midfield task.

“He’s going to be a great athlete,” Unsworth told the Liverpool Echo. “He can handle the ball, he’s a great presser of the ball.

“I’d say, when he develops and matures, he will be more of a box-to-box midfielder. He’s got great energy and you don’t want to bog him down into a holding midfield role.

“I think he can play in all of the midfield roles centrally; in a two, he can hold, and he can play wide of the three. There’s loads and loads of development in there and he’s certainly one for the future.”

Unsworth being afraid of holding Jagne’s development back by nurturing him solely as a defensive midfielder can eventually lead to the Sweden U17 international to evolve into another Doucoure-type, winning possession and creating chances at both ends of the field.

This style of play can aid Jagne’s progress into the first-team, too, as Ancelotti has shown this season that he is keen to utilise a three-man midfield with the system used in all Premier League fixtures but the 2-1 loss to Newcastle, where he was without wide duo Richarlison and Rodriguez.

The future is evidently bright for Jagne and one that could delight Everton fans for years to come.

Ben Gibson could be offered at least a temporary escape from Burnley, with two Championship clubs reportedly interested in his services.

Journalist Alan Nixon tweeted (via @reluctantnicko) that Middlesbrough and Norwich are keen on signing the defender, although the former only want a loan deal.

According to Lancashire Live, the Canaries’ interest also seems to be for a loan rather than a permanent move, with the Clarets holding out for a transfer fee for the 27-year-old.

Gibson, who became Burnley’s joint-record signing from Middlesbrough in a £15m deal in 2018 (as per BBC), has made just six appearances for the Clarets, with only one of those coming in the Premier League and the most recent being almost a year ago in a Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland (as per TransferMarkt).

As per The Mirror, he grew frustrated at the lack of game-time under Sean Dyche and his relationship with some of the club’s management became strained, which resulted in him being exiled from the Lancashire outfit and being given permission to train with his former Teesside employers earlier this year.

Even when Burnley had a shortage of senior centre-backs towards the end of the Premier League season, Gibson was not considered for selection, a rather damning indictment of where he stands at Turf Moor.

As per Lancashire Live, the Clarets want to recoup a substantial amount of their £15m outlay for him, although this could be complicated by clubs’ finances suffering as a consequence of the global pandemic. Therefore, any prospective suitors may be looking at a loan move rather than a permanent deal for now.

For both Burnley and Gibson, it would seem mutually beneficial that they part ways at the earliest opportunity, and at least the reported interest from Middlesbrough and Norwich is offering him a temporary escape from Turf Moor.

Whichever club lands the 27-year-old could be determined by who can be first to table an acceptable offer, as well as which one seems to present a greater chance of ultimately taking him off Burnley’s hands permanently further down the line.

According to Football Insider, the Scottish champions are working on a deal to sign Queens Park Rangers winger Bright Osayi-Samuel on a pre-contract agreement but they face a ton of competition for one of the Championship’s most in-demand stars.

They claim the Hoops are putting together a package for the 22-year-old ahead of the January transfer window where he would be free to join another club providing he doesn’t sign an extension to his current deal.

Rangers are also interested in the 5 foot 9 attacker whilst Leicester City, Fulham and Brighton have been keeping tabs too.

Osayi-Samuel saw a £5m move to Belgium fall through just two months ago, so to be able to clinch him on a free transfer – albeit not for another year – would be quite the steal.

His Rs teammate Eberechi Eze often took the plaudits in west London so the young Englishman has been left rather underrated despite an impressive campaign himself.

Per WhoScored, the 22-year-old provided five goals and eight assists whilst averaging 2.9 dribbles, 1.2 key passes and shots, and drew 1.9 fouls per game too.

QPR boss Mark Warburton believes the wide man is a “real handful” who has “sheer pace which terrifies defenders” and this is perhaps something Neil Lennon currently lacks in James Forrest and Moi Elyououssi.

To add weight to that argument, Osayi-Samuel has been described as a “lively, powerful and energetic dribbler” who’s an “absolute nightmare” to play against, as per the PFSA.

Neither of the aforementioned Bhoys duo have averaged more than 0.8 dribbles per game this term, so that sort of exciting threat is clearly going amiss at Parkhead.

Nick Hammond is surely onto a winner with the QPR sensation.

دعنا ننتقل مباشرة إلى الموسم الحالي في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز وكيف ترى ليفربول خاصة مع عودة الجماهير والمصابين على رأسهم فان دايك، وهل الفريق مرشح بقوة لحصد اللقب؟

“بداية الفريق رائع للغاية في الدوري الإنجليزي، خاصة بعد عودة المصابين وعلى رأسهم فان دايك فهو لاعب رائع للغاية وافتقدناه كثيرًا في الموسم الماضي، لكن لا أحد يضمن أي شيء قد يحدث في نهاية الموسم في المنافسة على اللقب”.

من أيضًا ترشح للفوز بلقب الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز مع ليفربول؟

“كما قلت المنافسة صعبة للغاية هذا الموسم بين الأندية على الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، هناك تشيلسي ومانشستر سيتي ومانشستر يونايتد ولا تستبعد حدوث أي مفاجأة من الفرق الأخرى مثل توتنهام وليستر سيتي ووست هام الذين قد يحدثون الفارق خلال مباريات الموسم الحالي”.

هل عودة كريستيانو رونالدو تزيد من فرص مانشستر يونايتد للمنافسة على اللقب؟

“عودة رونالدو ميزة لنادي مثل مانشستر يونايتد، كريستيانو يمتلك عقلية الفائز دائمًا وفاز بجميع البطولات في البلدان التي لعب فيها وكذلك فاز بأكثر من لقب في دوري أبطال أوروبا مع ريال مدريد ولم يحظ به فقط مع يوفنتوس، وبالتالي، سيساعد مانشستر يونايتد في المنافسة على الألقاب هذا الموسم”.

لنتحدث عن محمد صلاح هداف ليفربول في آخر 4 سنوات وهو أحد متصدري جدول ترتيب الهدافين في الدوري الإنجليزي هذا الموسم؟ ما رأيك في كل ما قدمه اللاعب مع الفريق حتى الآن؟

بماذا تنصح ليفربول بشأن تجديد عقد محمد صلاح وهل تعتقد أن هناك أزمة كما تتحدث الصحافة الإنجليزية؟

“على إدارة ليفربول أن تقدر ما يقدمه لاعب بحجم محمد صلاح، للفريق فهو يقود ليفربول إلى الفوز بالمباريات ويتفاهم جيدًا مع زملائه خاصة في الخط الهجومي مثل دييجو جوتا وساديو ماني وروبرتو فيرمينو ولكن أرقامه تتحدث عنه في السنوات الأخيرة”.

هل يستحق محمد صلاح الراتب الذي طلبه من ليفربول كما تزعم صحيفة “ميرور” وهو 500 ألف جنيه إسترليني في الأسبوع؟

“لا أعرف بالطبع، هل هذا الرقم صحيح أم لا ولكن بالتأكيد هناك مفاوضات وعرض وطلب بين النادي واللاعب وأتمنى أن يتوصلا إلى اتفاق في النهاية ويستمر في ليفربول”.

محمد صلاح ينافس كل عام على لقب الهداف، هل تتوقع فوزه الموسم الحالي بعد غيابه في آخر موسمين؟ أم أن وجود لاعبين مثل رونالدو وكين لهما رأي آخر؟

“أرشح محمد صلاح وساديو ماني وهاري كين وربما أيضًا رونالدو للمنافسة على لقب الهداف حتى نهاية الموسم، لكن أعتقد أن فرصة محمد صلاح أقوى في حصد الحذاء الذهبي الإنجليزي”.

كنت ضمن جيل ذهبي حصد الكثير من الألقاب مع ليفربول، بمن تقارن محمد صلاح منهم وهل يمكن أن نقول إنه أحد أفضل 10 لاعبين في تاريخ النادي بعد كل الأرقام التي يحطمها مع الفريق؟

“لا يمكن أن أنكر ما يقدمه محمد صلاح مع ليفربول، وبالطبع، يمكننا وضعه ضمن أفضل 10 لاعبين في تاريخ ليفربول ومصر بعد كل ما حققه مؤخرًا”.

وماذا عن دوري أبطال أوروبا، هل نتوقع شيئا من ليفربول ومن ترشح للقب هذا الموسم؟

“بطولة قوية للغاية، لكن ليفربول قادر على المنافسة حتى النهاية خاصة وأن الفريق يمتلك لاعبين رائعين، على رأسهم محمد صلاح، ولكن دعنا لا ننسى أن هناك أندية صعبة أخرى مثل تشيلسي، ريال مدريد، مانشستر سيتي وربما نرى تحسنا في أداء برشلونة وبالطبع ميلان”.

من يفوز بالبالون دور وجائزة الأفضل هذا العام، ميسي أم جورجينيو أم لاعب آخر؟

“ميسي ورونالدو ومحمد صلاح قدموا كثيرًا هذا العالم مع فرقهم، ولكن في رأيي ميسي هو الأوفر حظًا في الوقت الحالي”.

من هو أفضل حارس في العالم الآن؟

“يعجبني جيانلويجي دوناروما، أليسون، مانويل نوير، يان أوبلاك ولكن أليسون هو المفضل لدي بالطبع لأنه يلعب مع ليفربول”.

لنتحدث عن القارة السمراء، خاصة وأنك أسطورة في حراسة المرمى مع زيمبابوي والعالم من ترشح من المنتخبات للصعود إلى كأس العالم 2022 في قطر؟

“أعلم أن مصر في المركز الثاني في مجموعتها الحالية، لكن أمامها مباراتين ضد ليبيا ستكونان صعبتين ولكن واثق في تأهل الفراعنة إلى المرحلة النهائية من خلال الفوز على ليبيا في المباراتين وتصدر المجموعة، كذلك أرى جنوب إفريقيا قادرة على التأهل، نيجيريا، السنغال، تونس ولكن من الصعب توقع من سيتأهل من مجموعة كوت ديفوار والكاميرون ولا ننسى الجزائر بالتأكيد ستتأهل”.

لقد رشحك الكاف من قبل ضمن 4 حراس على لقب حارس القرن العشرين، إذا كنت تتابع الكرة الإفريقية حاليًا من تراه حارسًا مميزًا في المنتخبات؟ وهل شاهدت مباريات لحارس منتخب مصر والأهلي، محمد الشناوي؟

“على الحراس في قارة إفريقيا أن يحترفوا في دوريات أقوى خاصة في أوروبا من أجل الاحتكاك القوي مع لاعبين مميزين، لكن ربما يكون إدوارد ميندي حارس تشيلسي هو الأفضل حاليًا نظرًا لما حققه في الفترة الأخيرة رغم أن انتقاله من رين ليس ببعيد”.

وعن الشناوي: “لقد تابعته أكثر من مرة مع الأهلي ومنتخب مصر وهو حارس رائع وممتاز ويقدم أداءً مميزًا في الفترة الأخيرة”.

من يفوز بأفضل لاعب إفريقي هذا العام محمد صلاح، ساديو ماني، رياض محرز، إدوارد ميندي، أشرف حكيمي أم لاعب آخر؟

“بالنسبة لي، من الصعب الاختيار بين محمد صلاح وماني لأنني أشجع ليفربول، ولكني أرى أن ميندي يجب أن يفوز بشيء ما من الجوائز الإفريقية هذا العام، ولا يجب أن أنسى أوباميانج كذلك مع تلك الأسماء”.

من ترشح للفوز بأمم إفريقيا المقبلة في الكاميرون؟

“من الصعب التكهن كذلك بمن يفوز باللقب، لكن الكاميرون لديها ميزة وهي اللعب على أرضها ووسط جمهورها، هناك السنغال ومصر والجزائر”.

وتابع ضاحكًا: “ربما زيمبابوي أيضًا ولكن إذا كنت أنا من أدربها”.

لقد دربت من قبل في جنوب إفريقيا وبالتأكيد تعرف بيتسو موسيماني مدرب الأهلي الحالي، ما رأيك به خاصة بعد النجاحات التي حققها في العام الأخير مع الشياطين الحمر والفوز بآخر لقبين في دوري أبطال إفريقيا والسوبر الإفريقي وغيرها من البطولات؟

“بيتسو مدرب رائع، شخص متواضع للغاية، حقق العديد من الإنجازات في جنوب إفريقيا، يرغب دائمًا في التعلم وهذا ما جعل مسئولي الأهلي يتعاقدون معه ويجب أن نشكرهم على هذا الاختيار وتلك الثقة الكبيرة في قدرات موسيماني”.

هل تفكر في التدريب في القارة الإفريقية مرة أخرى، خاصة وأنني قرأت لك بعض التصريحات أنك ترغب في قيادة منتخب بلدك زيمبابوي بعد الفترة الأولى في 1997 و1998؟

“أتمنى أن أعود مرة أخرى لتدريب زيمبابوي، لقد دربتهم من قبل في 5 مباريات، ومتفائل بأن تتاح لي الفرصة لأرقص مع المحاربين (لقب منتخب بلده) الرقصة الأخيرة”.

قبل الختام، ماذا تعرف عن كرة القدم المصرية خاصة وأن هناك مدربا جديدا للفراعنة وهو كارلوس كيروش؟

“أعرف كيروش جيدًا وكذلك مساعده الجديد، روجر دي سا، من جنوب إفريقيا، كلاهما مدربان رائعان ومتأكد من أنهم سيضيفون الكثير للكرة المصرية وأتمنى لهما النجاح والتوفيق مع الفراعنة”.

في النهاية هل تريد توجيه رسالة إلى الجماهير المصرية التي تشجع نادي ليفربول وبالطبع تدعم محمد صلاح؟

“شكرًا لكم أنكم قدمتم لنا واحدا من أفضل اللاعبين في العالم وهو محمد صلاح، وإذا دربت زيمبابوي مرة أخرى والتقيت بمنتخب مصر سأفوز عليه (ضاحكًا) ولكن أتمنى للجميع التوفيق في مصر”.

The future of English football is very much up in the air at the moment, and with the ongoing pandemic putting a halt to the beautiful game for the foreseeable future there are plenty of questions still to be answered.

Promotion and relegation seem to be a hot topic at the moment, but even if everything goes ahead as normal, there is one club that have a big decision to make on a couple of big name players.

Indeed, upon Fulham’s relegation from the Premier League they had to balance their books and that meant selling players and loaning out big names to cut down their wage budget.

The Whites received £25m for Ryan Sessegnon in the summer, while Jean Micheal Seri and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa were sent out on loan.

Now, if the London club return to the Premier League they will have a decision to make on the aforementioned players, but what should they do?

It’s no secret that the two former Ligue 1 stars flopped during their first season at Craven Cottage, they were both named in FourFourTwo’s worst signings of the season list, but they did enough during their respective time at Nice and Marseille to warrant fees of over £20m being spent on them.

This season has been a chance for the pair to prove themselves once again as they were shipped out on loan, and they have made strides towards doing just that.

Anguissa has proven himself to be one of Europe’s best dribblers, making the fifth-most dribbles per game of any player in La Liga and even catching the eye of Real Madrid during his time at Villarreal.

Seri, on the other hand, is a player that seemed too good for Fulham when he first arrived.

The Ivorian had been heavily linked to Barcelona the prior summer, but upon his arrival at Craven Cottage, he looked more suited to League One than the Champions League.

Seri has stepped up this season with a pass accuracy of almost 90 percent and 1.5 key passes per game for Galatasaray, but then again, the Turkish League isn’t the best standard in the world.

If Fulham do go up, they will have a decision to make on these two.

Anguissa has more than earnt a chance to be handed another shot by Scott Parker, but Seri has a lot still to prove, and his future in England could well be decided by how he gets on in pre-season.

A lot of Celtic fans were raving over a picture of former player Bobby Lennox and they love the image so much due to both the player and the kit in which he is pictured.

Lennox had a great career at Parkhead, playing for the Hoops from 1961 to 1978, with 304 goals in his 529 appearances, as per thecelticwiki.

He was also a part of the historic ‘Lisbon Lions’ team which won the 1967 European Cup, becoming the first British winners of the competition, and his goalscoring record at the Hoops was so good that it made him the second highest scorer in the club’s history.

Lennox deserves to have represented the club in a great kit and it seems like the one he is wearing in the picture is an absolute hit with many fans, as they replied to wax lyrical about the strip, with one saying ‘Stick three stripes on the shoulders, change the Umbro to Adidas and this would be an all time best seller’, whilst another had one simple word to describe it – ‘Beautiful’.

It has been a long old decade, and what a ten years it has been for Southampton.

The Saints have gone from a Championship side to one that enjoyed a run in the Europa League and an appearance in the Carabao Cup final, while seeing some players who can now be regarded as some of the world’s best come and go.

Let’s take a look at who should make up the south coast side’s Team of the Decade…

Fraser Forster – The 6 foot 7 glovesman is almost certainly the best Southampton shot-stopper of this decade, having broken Paul Jones’s top-flight record for the longest period of time without conceding a goal, reaching 708 minutes – over 11 hours! Forster also made 125 appearances for the club, before things went downhill in recent seasons.

Nathaniel Clyne – What a full-back this man was. Signed from Crystal Palace, Clyne went on to play for England and made 104 appearances for the Saints, contributing to some of the finest moments in the club’s recent history.

Jose Fonte – The Portugal international made almost 300 appearances for the Saints during his time at the club, and was integral during Southampton’s rise to European football. Fonte captained the side during their golden period this decade, before leaving for West Ham.

Virgil van Dijk – Forget how it ended, if you can, and just admire how good of a player this man was. After arriving from Celtic, van Dijk make 80 appearances for the Saints while scoring seven goals, and made things look downright easy at the back for years.

Ryan Bertrand – It was a close call between Bertrand and Luke Shaw for the left-back role, although the current Southampton man takes the prize due to the fact that he was a mainstay in the side that qualified for Europe and finished just three points off the Champions League positions in 2015/16. The England international has made 181 appearances for the Saints, scoring seven goals and setting up 19 more.

Morgan Schneiderlin – What a classy midfield operator this man was. Schneiderlin made 257 appearances for the Saints, and like many in this side, played a crucial role in qualification for the Europa League in 2016 before departing for Manchester United.

Victor Wanyama – There simply is no other option in midfield, Wanyama was that good. The Kenyan colossus was a vital presence in the middle of the park for years at St Mary’s, making just short of 100 appearances for the club before being poached by Tottenham.

Steven Davis – One of few in this side who wasn’t nabbed by a larger club, Davis kept things ticking over nicely in midfield for years with his energy and composure. He made making a whopping 226 appearances for the Saints during a lengthy period at the club, and gets the nod over 2019 Ballon d’Or nominee, Dusan Tadic.

Sadio Mane – Scorer of the Premier League’s fastest-ever hat-trick while at Southampton, Mane is now one of the best players in Europe. The Senegal star netted 25 goals in 75 appearances for the Saints, and is arguably one of the finest forwards to have ever graced the St Mary’s turf.

Rickie Lambert – Nobody else was taking this spot, even if Graziano Pelle was a real fans’ favourite. Lambert is a bona-fide Southampton legend, playing a leading role in getting the Saints to the Premier League with 27 Championship goals in 2011/12, while continuing to perform in the Premier League as well. In total, Lambert scored 115 goals for the club before, unsurprisingly, Liverpool poached him.

Adam Lallana – The Southampton academy graduate, another player who departed for Liverpool, made 261 appearances for the Saints. Lallana helped carry the torch in the club’s early days as a Premier League side after promotion, scoring some wonderful individual goals along the way.

In his time at Manchester United, Ander Herrera was always one who seemed to give it his all and left everything out there on the pitch.

The Spaniard joined the club in the summer of 2014 from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao, and as per Whoscored, never averaged less than two tackles per game in the Premier League.

But in his final season at Old Trafford, the 30-year-old was used rather more sparingly, making just 22 appearances in the top-flight. In the end, he was let go by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, and promptly joined French giants PSG.

And now, in an interview with French publication So Foot (as quoted by The Manchester Evening News), the midfielder delivered a damning verdict on the culture at United.

He said: “I was immensely happy in Manchester but in the club there were times when I felt that football was not considered the most important thing.  I don’t know, but football was not the most important thing in Manchester.”

After hearing Herrera’s comments, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many Red Devils supporters threw their backing behind their former ace’s verdict on their club, and insisted that he is simply talking facts.

Birmingham have been struggling for goals so far this season, with twelve goals in their thirteen games.

However, things could have been a whole lot different if they’d have completed the signing of George Puscas before he chose Reading.

Puscas got off to a flying start, with three goals in his first three games, but has been on a quiet streak recently, before finding the back of the net against QPR in midweek.

Which led to @Blues_HQ on Twitter asking fans if they thought that they would end up regretting not pushing the boat out a little more when they were trying to sign him.

It seemed to get an almost unanimous response from the fans on Twitter, with fans saying that they’re glad the two sides couldn’t quite come to an agreement…
