An update has emerged on Celtic defender Leo Hjelde, regarding Leeds’ interest in the teenage prospect.

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United have opened talks with Leo Hjelde over a move to Elland Road from Celtic, with his contract at the Scottish club expiring next summer.

The report does not state whether Leeds are attempting to sign him in the current window or if they are prepared to wait and land him for a compensation fee in 2022.

Fans would be fuming

Ange Postecoglou must avoid a nightmare scenario with Hjelde over the next 12 months. He cannot allow the young defender to join Leeds without, at least, putting up a fight.

The Australian boss must work hard with the club to pin the teenager down to a new contract by offering potential first-team football and higher wages to convince him to turn Leeds down and stay in Scotland.

There is no need for Hjelde to rush into a Premier League move as Celtic have proven to be a good pathway for players in recent years.

The Hoops have sold the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Kieran Tierney, Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama to the English top-flight, with Kristoffer Ajer becoming the latest export following his transfer to Brentford earlier this month.

The young defender played 11 games on loan at Ross County in the Scottish Premiership last season, averaging a dismal WhoScored rating of 6.47. However, his performances are nothing to worry about at such a young age and it is only worth taking note of the fact he played 11 games, as it shows that his manager was willing to trust him despite his inexperience.

Earlier this year, County boss John Hughes made a bold claim that Hjelde is going to be the next Van Dijk, with the Dutchman now at Liverpool. He said:

“Leo is going to be the next Van Dijk – trust me on that.

“The quality he has shown, the physical challenge, playing real men’s football and standing up to it – it’s been a wonderful experience for Leo.

“Before he came, Leeds United were after him. I think he had to sign an extension to his contract for the loan to go through.”

Therefore, fans would be gutted if Celtic allowed the 17-year-old powerhouse to depart easily, as he could be the next star player on the production line.

Instead of selling him or watching him run down his contract, the Hoops could offer him first-team opportunities in the hope that he grasps them and does become the next Van Dijk.

Postecoglou must do all he can to keep him, or he’ll be facing fury from the Celtic Park faithful…

Speaking to Football Insider, a Tottenham Hotspur source has dropped an exciting two-word message involving Lilywhites superstar Son Heung-min, which must come as a big boost for new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Lowdown: Spurs in Son contract talks…

Indeed, he is ‘staying at Tottenham’ after agreeing the new deal, committing his future to the north Londoners and new manager Nuno ‘irrespective’ of Harry Kane’s future.

Indeed, after talks with the Spurs boss, Son has now ‘finalised’ his contract according to the source, with Nuno seemingly set for a big boost ahead of his debut season at the helm.

Sheffield United’s pursuit of Conor Hourihane does not hinge on Sander Berge leaving Bramall Lane this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Sheffield Star, who claim that Slavisa Jokanovic will pursue a deal for the Aston Villa midfielder regardless of whether or not Berge leaves the club.

The report goes on to touch on the interest in the Blades midfielder, with Napoli, Arsenal and Atalanta all said to be keen on a move for the 23-year-old this summer.

However, The Star claimed that Hourihane – on whom Dean Smith is believed to be willing to cash in ahead of next season – is viewed by the Sheffield United transfer team as a replacement for the recently-departed John Lundstram rather than the Norway international.

Considering the impressive record that Hourihane boasts in the Championship, should Jokanovic indeed go on to land the midfielder this summer while also retaining the services of Berge, Sheffield United fans would surely be buzzing.

O atleta, que atuou no Botafogo durante quase dez anos, ainda aconselha Sassá dizendo que o atacante deve saber a hora de aproveitar.

– O único conselho que posso dar é para o Sassá fazer as coisas na hora certa. Ele tem que aproveitar a vida. É um garoto novo e é normal que ele queira sair, ir à festas… mas precisa saber que tem obrigações a cumprir. Aston Villa could sign their new Juan Pablo Angel in Southampton and England striker Danny Ings.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from The Athletic, Villa, along with fellow Premier League sides West Ham and Tottenham have all shown an interest in signing the £75k-a-week earning ace this summer.

Villa’s new Angel

In a countdown of Villa’s 50 greatest ever players done back in 2011, Angel was named 49th, with his profile piece saying: “It took Juan Pablo Angel a while to justify his £9.5m club record price tag but there’s no doubt that he eventually achieved his aim as he evolved into one of Villa’s most popular players of the modern era.

His current boss at Southampton, Ralph Hasenhuttl has lauded his exploits as “unbelievable”, and he has been proving that in the top-flight for a few years now.

Ings enjoyed another decent campaign in the Premier League last season, firing in 12 goals in just 29 top-flight games – that of course followed on from the season before when he bagged 22, just behind Jamie Vardy’s league-leading 23.

As per Understat, in the 55 Premier League goals that he has scored in total, only five of them have come from outside the box, with several coming within the width of the six-yard area – a real indication of the way in which his clever positioning and off-the-ball movement can outfox defenders.

– Ano que vem, temos um modelo diferente, uma competição mais curta, possivelmente com outros grandes clubes, tipo o torneio que fazem nos estados unidos, um torneio de verão, com poucos jogos e rentável. Talvez tragamos mais interesse da televisão para esse tipo de competição – disse Gilvan, que ainda completou:

– Quem sabe mudando de formato, fazendo às vezes tudo no Rio, tudo em Belo Horizonte, tudo no Nordeste… Fica um negócio mais palatável.

Gilvan disse que não vê na CBF uma oposição à Primeira Liga.

Several first-team players such as Cenk Tosun, Iwobi and Tom Davies will be eager to prove themselves to whoever their new manager will be, with many reports suggesting that it could be Nuno Espirito Santo or Paulo Fonseca.

When a new manager comes in everyone is back to square one, there are no favourites or guaranteed starters which is something that could help Iwobi kickstart his Everton career, according to Windass when he spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“Iwobi struggled having arrived with a massive price tag of about £35 million and obviously it didn’t work out for him under Ancelotti.

“‘He’ll be delighted he’s gone, I think because that’s what players are like and I’ve been there and worn the T-shirt when managers have gone who didn’t really fancy you.”

There were high expectations at Everton ahead of last season with Ancelotti at the helm and having brought in what appeared to be great signings with the likes of James Rodriguez, Allan and Ben Godfrey but they ended up finishing in a very poor 10th.

Whoever is appointed Everton’s next manager must be backed financially but in the right way and not waste money on players as they have done in the past but they must also be given time to deliver a long term project as no manager since David Moyes left has been able to do so.
