Leeds: Marcelo Bielsa provides Bamford update. %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Leeds United will want to follow up their victory against Burnley with another win as they face West Bromwich Albion tonight and ahead of the big game, Marcelo Bielsa has been discussing in-form striker Patrick Bamford.

Bielsa provides Bamford injury update

Speaking following the win over Burnley, Marcelo Bielsa was asked about Bamford after he looked to be struggling with a leg injury near the end of the encounter. He said: “With respect to Bamford, I don’t know yet”

This would be a big blow for Leeds

Bamford has been in great form for Leeds so far in the Premier League. The player has proved many doubters wrong as he has scored ten goals in 15 appearances (WhoScored). The Englishman has also managed 3.6 shots per game.

Rob Lee praised the forward for his season so far as he said: “Patrick Bamford has done brilliant, I think he’s done a fantastic job. He’s their focal point, he plays every game.”

The goals he has in England’s top flight puts him in the top six goal scorers in the division and without them, the Yorkshire-based club would only have scored 15 times this season (SofaScore). Therefore, if he is unavailable for tonight’ game, it would be a massive blow for Leeds and a potentially major boost for West Brom.

Aston Villa ace Matt Targett was Dean Smith’s unsung hero against Wolves

Matt Targett emerged a surprise hero for Dean Smith as Aston Villa beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the West Midlands derby on Saturday.

The ex-Southampton full-back had his work cut out keeping Nuno Espirito Santo’s talismanic forward Adama Traore quiet, but excelled at the task to force the Spaniard into switching flanks with Pedro Neto after the hour mark.

Wolves had a clear gameplan of working the ball to Traore in the opening stages yet rarely enjoyed much success, with his only true break resulting in a tame effort on Emiliano Martinez’s goal early in the second half.

Martinez was inspired between the sticks to produce an array of pivotal saves as the game edged toward a draw, but a late mistake from Nelson Semedo gifted the Villans a penalty which substitute Anwar El Ghazi buried.

The win moved Aston Villa up to eighth and above their West Midlands rivals, while holding two games in hand, despite claiming just one win in five Premier League fixtures before travelling to Molineux.

Targett upstaged Traore magnificently to ensure his performance could not go unnoticed, as the £17million signing from 2019 earned his 10th-straight start of the top-flight season.

The 25-year-old’s performance was not perfect, having recorded just a 56% pass success rate and was cautioned in the closing stages, yet excelled with a joint-team high 61 touches and the third-most total passes by a Villans player, per WhoScored.

Targett completed just 19 of his 34 total pass, one of which being deemed a key ball, while delivering four attempted but unsuccessful crosses and attempting nine long passes, of which only three found teammates.

He also lost possession 20 times – only John McGinn (21) turned the ball over more often, per SofaScore – but stood out with his back to Martinez’s goal with five clearances, three interceptions, three successful tackles and blocked one shot.

Smith never saw Targett try his luck on Wolves’ goal or attempt a dribble, but would have left Molineux mightily impressed by the former England U19 international’s efforts in behind youngster Jacob Ramsey, who was making his first-ever Premier League start.

Meanwhile, this Aston Villa ace badly let Dean Smith down against Wolves.

Ivan Toney: Carlo Ancelotti can redefine Everton with swoop for Brentford striker

Carlo Ancelotti can redefine Everton’s attack by signing Brentford’s “hungry” marksman Ivan Toney, who compares himself with Swedish icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

What’s the word?

According to Calciomercato, Toney has emerged as a potential option for Everton to target following his stellar form this season as their Director of Football Marcel Brands considers bolstering Ancelotti’s strike force.

Toney joined Championship side Brentford from Peterborough in the summer on a five-year contract, in a £5million deal that could reach a maximum fee of £10m through add-ons.

Posh had slapped a £13m asking price on the forward last winter amid interest from Burnley and AFC Bournemouth, feeling the former Newcastle United man was the best young striker outside of the Premier League with Middlesbrough, Cardiff, Bristol City and Derby County also keen.

Toney ultimately joined Brentford for less than half what Peterborough had hoped for, despite netting 26 goals and penning seven assists across all competitions last term, and has already started to hit home in the Championship with a hand in 15 goals (13 scored, two assisted) and counting this season.

Bees boss Thomas Frank was full of praise for Toney when he unveiled the 24-year-old at the Brentford Community Stadium this summer, claiming: “We are adding a hungry, ambitious, hard-working striker to the group here.

“He fits what I want in a striker; he is a goalscorer, he gets into good positions in the box, he is good playing on the last line, and will contribute to our link-up play. Our strikers are a big part of our pressing game, and Ivan, with his work ethic, will help us with that.”

Chance to redefine Everton

Ancelotti would have the chance to redefine Everton if Brands were to target Toney in an upcoming window, as the Toffees have become vastly reliant on wide players to carry the Goodison Park outfit in recent months.

The Blues’ reliance on wide players was evident most while without Richarlison following the Brazilian’s red card in the Merseyside Derby, with Everton creating just two on-target shots at Southampton, four on-target efforts at Newcastle and just one on-target strike at home to Manchester United in three straight defeats.

Richarlison’s return for last month’s trip to Fulham instantly saw a change of fortunes as Everton directed seven of their nine shots on target, with the others blocked, while the Brazilian provided one key ball and accounted for three of his side’s efforts, per WhoScored.

Toney’s ability to harry opposition defences would also allow Ancelotti to free Dominic Calvert-Lewin and open spaces for James Rodriguez to occupy, and have little fear the Newcastle flop – who left St. James’ Park after four goalless appearances – will struggle.

The Bees star is confident to the edge of arrogance, claiming his self-belief is to the same degree as Sweden icon Ibrahimovic, whom he sees similarities with on the field.

“I’ve always liked Zlatan. I just love his confidence. Some people see it as arrogance, but you must be like that to succeed,” he told The Sun.

“I’m similar to Zlatan in both my confidence and the way I play. When he wants to do something, he just does it. I have some of that in my game and personality. And I believe I’ll be a Premier League striker.”

Celtic move for Harry Wilson could be shades of Patrick Roberts

Celtic boss Neil Lennon is looking to bolster his squad before tonight’s transfer deadline as the Hoops look for a tenth title in a row and one name could hit the money with the Parkhead faithful…

What’s the word?

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the defending Scottish champions have enquired to Liverpool over a potential move for their winger Harry Wilson, who saw a move to Burnley collapse this week.

It’s claimed that the Reds want to sell the 23-year-old permanently but a “showcase loan” to Celtic could suit all parties, particularly with a lack of transfer offers for the outcast.

Liverpool want around £20m for his signature, which clearly is putting off some interested teams.

Shades of Patrick Roberts

If Peter Lawwell and Nick Hammond can pull off this temporary switch, then it would be an outstanding coup – the best since Patrick Roberts, perhaps?

There would be many similarities between the two deals.

The 23-year-old is out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp and has already endured four loan spells throughout his Anfield career, very much similar to the Man City winger, who has also gone out the same number of times, including to teams in the Championship.

Wilson broke through with an incredible stint under Frank Lampard at Derby County where he scored 16 goals and provided four assists, averaging 2.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

He even bagged seven times for a relegated Bournemouth side in the top-flight last season yet he still can’t contend with Mo Salah or Sadio Mane, which is understandable – and is a reason why another loan move could suit all involved.

Klopp has previously lauded his set-piece abilities, claiming: “Each free-kick is a proper threat. We were never in doubt about Harry’s shooting abilities, his skills in that part of the game are incredible – world-class, for sure.”

Whilst former Hull City teammate Jackson Irvine, who was once on the books at Celtic Park, labelled Wilson as “incredibly talented”.

Roberts was a fan-favourite over his two-season spell at Parkhead and the same could happen for the £60k-per-week Liverpool misfit given he has the perfect eye for goal.

Gareth Bale back training with Spurs as debut looms %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

No clear indication has been made on exactly when we can expect him in a full Tottenham shirt, but judging by this latest Instagram post, it could only mean good news as Lilywhites anxiously await the return of their hero.

This positive post couldn’t have come at a better time, especially considering Spurs face the possibility of absences for both Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso (Evening Standard).

Joining Spurs from Real Madrid alongside the Wales international, Reguilon picked up a knock whilst on tour with Spain – hobbling off the pitch during their 0-0 draw with Portugal on Wednesday.

As well as the 23-year-old, Lo Celso picked up a thigh injury training with Argentina – potentially leaving many supporters to curse their luck.

Now, with Bale nearing a return, it has at least gifted supporters an optimistic update after a summer of heavy spending and headline-grabbing deals.

When we’ll see the ‘exciting’ club hero – as praised by Glenn Hoddle –  in action remains to be seen, but it could be soon judging by this latest update.

Spurs fans, are you excited to see Bale back in action? Have your say in the comments down below….

Everton would be getting a steal in £15m-rated Josh King

Everton’s chances of signing one of their attacking transfer targets have been dealt a fresh boost this week…

What’s the word?

Earlier this month, The Sun’s Alan Nixon claimed that the Toffees were eyeing up a £15m swoop for relegated AFC Bournemouth forward Joshua King with Carlo Ancelotti in the market for a new striker.

The Daily Mail have since reported that the 28-year-old is attracting interest from abroad with AC Milan, Lazio and Roma all keen but so are ten other Premier League teams, including the Merseysiders.

And they believe King would rather stay in the English top-flight, which surely comes as a huge boost to Marcel Brands and co.

Passed the interview

Well, if the final game of the season was his formal interview, then he’d have passed it with flying colours so it’s now on Ancelotti to offer him the role.

The 5 foot 11 Norwegian helped the Cherries deliver a resounding victory at Goodison Park, although the three points weren’t enough for them to remain in the PL.

King provided one goal, via the penalty spot, as well as one assist and also recorded two key passes, two successful dribbles and picked up a 7.6 rating, as per SofaScore.

He dominated Seamus Coleman so much on that right-flank that the Toffees skipper was withdrawn before the hour mark for loan man Djibril Sidibe.

It was King’s sixth goal and fourth assist of the season, which is pretty good going in a team that were consistently flirting with the drop all season.

Ex-Cherries boss Eddie Howe labelled his frontman a “complete package” and claimed he’s “outstanding physically, technically and mentally” to Match of the Day last year.

The “unique” forward can play anywhere along the front three, very much in a similar vein to Richarlison, so at just £15m, Brands would be getting his boss an absolute steal.

Crystal Palace: Fans react as news suggests club will look towards playing more youth

Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the news that the club will be looking towards their youth players for the final nine games of the Premier League season.

According to the Sun on Sunday reporter Alan Nixon, Roy Hodgson would like to look more towards his youth for the final fixtures of the season to help save money for future transfers.

This would be a good idea for the club, as they have recently been granted all the planning permission needed to redevelop their academy, whilst they currently have on average the second oldest squad in the division, so need a young crop of players to come in and be ready for when some of the old guard move on.

With Palace on 39 points so far, there is a lot to play for as they sit just six points from European qualification, but also only 12 points from relegation, per BBC Sport. With many agreeing the club has one of the hardest fixture lists for these final games, it may be a risk to throw the youngsters in.

However it seems that the majority of fans would be happy to see youth given a chance at Selhurst Park – one even said it was an “excellent idea.” This is perhaps because of the current average age of their side, whilst some may also have the success of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in their minds, a player who came through their ranks before being sold for a huge £50m to Manchester United last year.

Here is what fans said following the news:

Palace fans, are you happy with these plans? Comment below!

West Ham: Fans praise former defender Steve Potts

A lot of West Ham fans were quick to praise former Iron Steve Potts after COYIrons wished the player happy birthday.

It clearly seems that the Englishman left fond memories at the club as fans discussed how good he was and it is easy to see why as he enjoyed a great career in East London.

The defender managed to make 506 appearances for the side, per West Ham United, from 1985-2002 and even managed to score one goal along the way, whilst picking up the accolade of ‘Hammer of the Year’ twice, once in 1993 and again in 1995.

It is amazing to see how long the player was at the club, and his loyalty has not gone unrewarded as he now finds himself as a coach for the youth sides and the young academy prospects will surely be starstruck that they are learning from a legend of the club.

Here is what fans had to say following the tweet, with one even dubbing him as “Mr Dependable”:
