James Pearce believes potential Werner to Liverpool deal has major stumbling block

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce conducted a live Q&A with Reds fans on Thursday night, as reported by the media outlet, and while he revealed that RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is on manager Jurgen Klopp’s radar, he believes one issue could stop the Germany international moving to Anfield this summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the 22-year-old centre-forward is one of the most impressive young players in European football right now, and he is once again in good form for the Bundesliga outfit this term having scored 13 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions – he has 55 in 101 games for them in total.

The Merseyside outfit could easily be in the market for a new attacker at the end of the season given Pearce also believes that Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi could be on their way, and he says Werner is a potential target.

In quotes as reported by The Liverpool Echo, he said: “He’s certainly on his radar but whether that leads to anything it’s too early to say.

“Liverpool will certainly have to bolster their attacking options in  the summer.

“Sturridge will leave when his contract expires and I wouldn’t be surprised if Origi also moves on in search of more regular action.

“One issue Liverpool have got with recruiting an attacker is that the front line of Firmino, Mane and Salah miss so little football. It would have to be someone content with being a squad player. Whether Werner would be happy with that role, I’m not so sure.”

Is he right?

He certainly is.

It seems likely that Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah will be Liverpool’s preferred front three for a while to come should Klopp stick with a 4-3-3 system, but an opportunity could be there for Werner to be a regular starter in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Firmino in the No.10 role.

That might well be unlikely on a regular basis however, and should Werner leave Leipzig at the end of the campaign he will want to make his mark at a big club, and be in the starting XI.

Settling largely for substitute appearances will surely not appeal to the Germany ace, and Klopp may well have a lot of work to do to convince him to come to Anfield if he does indeed want to sign the attacker.

Dunne reveals Bardsley advice ahead of Sunderland move

[ad_pod ]

Jimmy Dunne has explained why he joined Sunderland from Burnley, in quotes reported by The Sunderland Echo.

The 21-year-old completed a loan move to the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window.

What’s the word?

Dunne spent the first half of the season in the Scottish Premiership, playing for Hearts.

The centre-back played 14 times for the SPFL side in all competitions but is now in League One as the Black Cats attempt to gain promotion to the Championship.

And Dunne says that Phil Bardsley, who spent six years at the club, had a key role in selling Sunderland to him.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

“Phil Bardsley did talk to me about the club,” Dunne told The Sunderland Echo. “How highly he rates it, how much he enjoyed his time here.

“That was certainly something I listened to and enjoyed listening to.

“It’s not just the size of the club, it’s the pressure and expectation that comes with that. It’s got a huge history, and being part of something potentially amazing, you want that.”

The attitude Sunderland need

Sunderland desperately need hungry young talent as they seek to get back into the Championship.

They are currently fourth in the table, nine points behind leaders Luton Town, but they do have three games in hand.

Win those and they will be level on points with the current pace-setters and Dunne will hope to play a major role in that.

He started his career with Manchester United and has clearly had the exact right attitude drilled into him – he is desperate to get better and desperate to win.

If that desire transmits to his team-mates, Sunderland will be in excellent shape.

Aston Villa receive blow in Morgan Sanson pursuit

Jeunes Footeux is reporting that Morgan Sanson is not interested in a move to Aston Villa.

What’s the story?

The Marseille midfielder had been linked with a move to Villa Park, but it now seems that he has no desire to move to Dean Smith’s side – the reason being the lack of European football.

Wolves and Leicester, who both currently sit in the top six in the Premier League, are also being linked with a move. They appear to be ahead of the Villans in the race for his signature, as such.

Shame

Whils PSG have once again run away with Ligue 1, Marseille have been by far the best of the rest. They are currently eight points clear of Rennes in third place, and have the third-highest goal difference in the division – albeit that is only +12.

Sanson has played an important part in that form, featuring in 26 of their 27 matches so far this term in the French top flight, managing four goals and four assists along the way. With an 86% passing accuracy, he is comfortable in possession of the ball, and his 63% dribble success is another reason why he is currently receiving plenty of interest.

It is a blow to Villa that the £25.2m-rated midfielder does not see his future with Smith’s team, but it does at least indicate that the Villans are trying to target an upper echelon of player.

With all due respect to the likes of Bournemouth, Southampton and Brentford – from whom they signed Tyrone Mings, Matt Targett and Ezri Konsa respectively – they are not teams constantly fighting at the top of the table in one of Europe’s top five leagues like the French side.

Sanson may not be interested in the move, but others could be more intrigued by the project at the club. Villa need to remain in the battle to sign top-quality talent.

Meanwhile, Villa fans back Dean Smith’s tactical switch.

Leeds fans blast Harrison performance vs Boro

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been running the rule over Saturday’s dramatic draw at Middlesbrough, and they’re not too happy with the performance of Jack Harrison.

When Harrison and Izzy Brown joined last summer, Leeds fans were delighted to secure two “big six” talents for the season.

The pair have not had the desired impact though, as Brown is yet to play a Championship game due to injuries and Harrison has managed just two goals and one assist in 22 league appearances.

Check out Neymar’s controversial new haircut for 2019 and Xherdan Shaqiri as you’ve never seen him before in the video below…

Harrison was once again given the nod on Saturday as the Whites travelled to the Riverside Stadium to take on the league’s sternest defence, and the match went exactly how you’d expect it to, with the visitors dominating the ball but creating very little.

Lewis Wing then put Boro in front just after half time, and it wasn’t until the 110th minute that Kalvin Phillips popped up with the equaliser, after an issue for Jack Clarke caused a lengthy stoppage.

Harrison completed just 55 per cent of his passes in the match, and fans are absolutely crucifying the 22 year-old’s display.

Leeds fans react to brilliant club Tweet trolling Millwall’s Steve Morison

[ad_pod ]

The rivalry between Leeds and Millwall is such that even the former’s official club Twitter account couldn’t resist a sly dig at the latter’s in response to a tweet by Nigel Farage on Wednesday.

In light of the recent Brexit agreement, Farage took to social media to vent his frustration at the deal, calling it “the worst deal in history”; in response, Leeds nominated another.

Fans were in in stitches as they lamented the 2013 swap deal of Luciano Becchio to Norwich, in which the Whites received Steve Morison in return – a player who then scored just five goals in 41 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit after his arrival.

Now plying his trade at Millwall in his second spell with the London club, the 35-year-old has scored 31 in 137 for the Lions – a marked improvement – but that didn’t stop Leeds’ Twitter account from sneakily prodding their rivals.

Here’s how the Elland Road faithful reacted.

Liverpool fans on Twitter keen to keep Lovren on the bench

This season has seen Liverpool win their two games with relative ease, scoring six goals and conceding zero since against West Ham and Crystal Palace. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have been key to that and Danny Murphy has spoken to Bwin about how he’d be keen to see Gomez keep his place even when Dejan Lovren returns.

The 41-year-old ex-Liverpool midfielder claimed that he doesn;t think Lovren can keep up his World Cup form and that seems like a fair assessment. The Croatian defender was sublime in the World Cup and had some good games in the lead up to the tournament with Liverpool back at the end of the last season. However, he has some errors in him and they’ve been seen first hand by the fans, that 4-1 loss to Spurs at Wembley is a great example.

The way the club has started this season also shows that Lovren might not be so crucial to the club anyway. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have kept two clean sheets in two and if they can keep a third it will be the first time the club has opened a Premier League campaign with three straight clean sheets since the 2015/16 season. Things don’t look like they need changing at the moment and Jurgen Klopp will be well aware of that.

You can read the Reds’ verdict on Murphy’s comments here:

The Liverpool fans on Twitter seem to agree with Murphy over Lovren and won’t want to see Gomez lose his place cheaply.

Manchester United fans hope Martial shines against Liverpool

Manchester United will take on arch rivals Liverpool in what is being billed as one of the biggest games of the Premier League season this Saturday lunchtime.

There is no getting away from the fierce rivalry between the two clubs, but it is safe to say that the Red Devils head into the clash in better form.

Jose Mourinho’s men are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions, while Liverpool have only secured victory once in their last seven outings.

Jurgen Klopp’s defensive woes have been highlighted during the campaign, and their attack was hit with a major blow on Tuesday when Sadio Mane was ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

From United’s perspective, they are in strong form having scored 21 Premier League goals, and three of them have been netted by Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has been regularly rotated with Marcus Rashford, but has impressed whenever used by Mourinho.

United fans are hopeful that the 21-year-old will be the star of the show against Liverpool at Anfield.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Eriksen backed for Barcelona move

Former Ajax boss Frank de Boer believes that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is good enough to play for Barcelona.

The Denmark international has been ever-present in Mauricio Pochettino’s team, starting in all but one of the club’s 32 Premier League games so far this season.

Eriksen does not always make the headlines, but he has played a large part in helping the team push Chelsea in the title race.

The 25-year-old has scored 11 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, and De Boer believes that the midfielder is ready for a step up.

The ex-Inter Milan boss is very familiar with Eriksen having coached him at Ajax for three years before he made the move to White Hart Lane in 2013.

Eriksen only signed a new four-year contract at Spurs in September last year, indicating that he sees his future in North London, but De Boer thinks that it is time to move on.

He told Ziggo Sports:

“I think he’s has a great career in the making. First Ajax, then to Tottenham at the highest level. I think he is ready for a step higher. Tottenham is a great club, but he has everything that a Barcelona player needs. Christian has an overview, work ethic. Left, right, assists, he can score. He is quite complete.”

Sunderland snap up third Man United star as Moyes overhaul continues

Sunderland have announced the signing of Adnan Januzaj on loan from Manchester United for the 2016/17 season. The Belgian starlet, who broke through at Old Trafford under now Black Cats boss David Moyes during the 2013/14 campaign, becomes the third player to move from the Red Devils to the North East side following a double deal for defenders Donald Love and Paddy McNair earlier this week.WANT MORE? >>ÂSunderland transfer newsÂ|ÂManchester United transfer newsJanuzaj spent some of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, but the 21-year-old returned early after failing to settle in Germany.

Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, Moyes talked up the deal, claiming that he hopes to get the best from the youngster:

“Adnan will give us a different variation. I have to get him back to the level he played at two years ago.

“He will get every opportunity to do the business. I’m hoping the Sunderland fans will see the real Januzaj.â€

Januzaj’s future has been the subject of much debate in recent days, with Jose Mourinho’s desire to offload him well-known.

The arrivals of Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan cluttered an already well-populated attacking midfield armoury at Man United, and the silky playmaker stands a better chance of playing regularly at the Stadium of Light.
