Devendra Bundela puts up a gallant fight in Indore

Central Zone were 339 for eight at the close of play on the first day of their four-day Duleep Trophy encounter against North Zone at the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground in Indore on Tuesday.

Staff Reporter03-Apr-2002Central Zone were 339 for eight at the close of play on the first day of their four-day Duleep Trophy encounter against North Zone at the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground in Indore on Tuesday.Devendra Bundela was on the verge of a well-deserved hundred (98*) as he took Central Zone to relative safety by the close of play. At one stage, Central were 175 for five and facing a real danger of being shot out for a low score after having elected to bat first.Earlier, Central had got off to a chocking start, losing Gagan Khoda bowled by Vinay Sharma for a duck in the very first over. Sharma struck again in the following over as the timbers rattled again, this time the victim being Paresh Sutane (9). Yere Goud (2) struggled for 28 balls before being caught by Vikram Rathour off the bowling of off-spinner Sarandeep Singh.Central were reeling at 38 for three in the 14th over, but the new pair of Jyoti Yadav and Jai Yadav then set about repairing the floundering innings. Jyoti Yadav, who opened the innings, went on to make 80 runs off 131 balls, striking a dozen fours and a six. The two batsmen added 111 valuable runs for the fourth wicket before Jyoti Yadav was caught by Yashpal Singh off Sarandeep Singh in the 40th over with Central on 149.Jai Yadav was the fifth batsman to be dismissed when, with the total at 175, he was caught by Shafiq Khan off Rahul Sanghvi. Yadav made 68 off 103 balls, relying more on the big strokes that produced 10 boundaries and two sixes. Then it was all Devendra Bundela defying the North Zone bowling to take Central Zone to safety. He got admirable support from Harvinder Singh (31), and the two batsmen added 86 crucial runs for the seventh wicket. Bundela faced 166 balls and struck 16 fours and a six in his brilliant unbeaten knock.Sarandeep Singh was the best of the North Zone attack, bowling a marathon spell to finish the day with the figures of 31-3-142-4.

Harris destroys Northerns in Bowl Final

Western Province duly completed a comfortable victory over the Northerns Titans to win the UCB Bowl 3-Day competition for the third season in succession

Peter le Grange25-Mar-2002Western Province duly completed a comfortable victory over the Northerns Titans to win the UCB Bowl 3-Day competition for the third season in succession.Predictably, left arm spinner Paul Harris was the man of the day, claiming 8 for 53 in 24.3 overs. A tribute to his control was that he conceded just 4 boundary hits in his lengthy spell, two of them when Christo Karemaker hit out with the number 11 batsman for a partner.Northerns made a good start to the day. Allahudien Paleker and nightwatchman Gary Hampson were circumspect at first, but Paleker gaimed in confidence, at one stage hitting Ryan ten Doeschate over mid-wicket for six.Strangely, home captain Jonno McLean used his seamers for the first hour of play. When Paul Harris was eventually re-introduced to the attack, he broke through in his second over, taking a good low catch to dismiss Hampson, who had been dropped playing a similar shot off the previous ball. This ended a 47 run partnership, which was to prove to be the best of the innings, holding up the home attack for over an hour. Johan Myburgh looked good value, and Quinton Still batted aggressively while Paleker went on to complete his half century in just over two hours off 112 balls. At 126 for 4 the visitors must still have been confident of scoring the additional 117 for victory, but they then crumbled to 150 for 9. Harris was instrumental in this slump and was aided by good catching. A particularly memorable effort was made by JP Duminy, back-pedalling some 15 metres to take a spectacular catch on the mid wicket boundary to dismiss a subdued Friedel de Wet. Eventually, Karemaker struck out in desperation, hitting all of the last 24 runs in a do-or-die blaze of glory. His farming of the strike was so effective that last man Ethy Mbhalati did not face a single ball during his 15 minute innings.Appropriately, Harris claimed the final wicket with 46 overs still remaining when Karemaker mistimed an on drive, Duminy effecting his third successive dismissal of the innings. The last indignity for the Northerns batsmen, who had done well enough to gain a 109-run lead on the first innings, came when the sprinkler system was inadvertantly activated while the presentation ceremony was still in progress, sending them scurrying to prevent their equipment from being drenched. Thus Western Province maintained their dominance of this competition, and will go confidently into the one-day final on Wednesday, this time facing Border.

Wolves fans on Embarba transfer update

Many Wolves fans have been left to slam a transfer update on Adrian Embarba that has since been shared by @TalkingWolves on their Twitter page.

As per AS, the Midlands club, as well as West Ham United, Norwich City and Watford, are on his trail and are interested in the player’s situation.

They would be willing to pay the required transfer fee and also bump up his current wages, as both Levante and Real Betis are also on his radar.

Embarba has come off of the back of a great 2020/21 season with Espanyol, having scored no fewer than nine goals and made a further 14 assists in 37 games in total in the Spanish second division (Transfermarkt).

However, the jump from that league up to the Premier League is big, and at 29 years of age, his best years could already be past him now.

Thus, it is no surprise to see several members of the Molineux faithful slam the thought of signing the winger in the summer window.

Norwich dealt blow in Meyerhofer pursuit

Norwich City have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to bring Marco Meyerhofer to Carrow Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by German publication Liga2-online (via Football League World), who claim that the Canaries have made an enquiry regarding a potential move for the 25-year-old SpVgg Greuther Furth right-back in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the report goes on to claim that a deal for the £720k-rated defender would be difficult to get over the line for the Championship winners, as the new Brexit regulations mean that Meyerhofer would not likely qualify for the correct work permit allowing him to make a move to the UK.

Farke will be gutted

Considering just how impressive the right-back has been in 2. Bundesliga this season, the fact that a move for the defender could be in jeopardy due to something that, up until January of this year, had never previously been a problem in the transfer of a European player is sure to leave Daniel Farke gutted.

Over his 33 appearances in the German second tier this season, the marauding Meyerhofer excelled for Greuther Furth in a creative capacity, with the 25-year-old registering nine assists and creating 10 big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.8 key passes per game.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt man also impressed defensively, helping his side to keep six clean sheets, in addition to making an average of 1.9 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 1.5 clearances per game, while also winning an average of 5.3 duels in each fixture.

These metrics saw Meyerhofer earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.02, ranking him as Stefan Leitl’s sixth-best performer in 2. Bundesliga.

As such, if Norwich were to miss out on a deal for the right-back for something as trivial as a work permit, it would undoubtedly come as a huge blow for Stuart Webber and his side, particularly if the Canaries’ current first choice in the position, Max Aarons, does go on to depart Carrow Road this summer – as Meyerhofer would appear to be an extremely decent candidate to replace the 21-year-old.

West Ham could land Ntcham for nothing

West Ham could sign one of their mooted transfer targets for nothing this summer, if emerging claims are to be believed…

What’s the word?

Last summer, 90min reported that the Irons were one of several teams eyeing a move for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, whilst over a year ago, it was thought that the two were in advanced talks over a transfer, as per Foot Mercato.

The 25-year-old joined Ligue 1 outfit Marseille during the January transfer window after they failed to secure Hammers star Manuel Lanzini, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

It appears that his future at Parkhead is in serious doubt, if not already over. Celtic are set to terminate his contract a year early, meaning he would be available on a free transfer this summer.

And now it has been revealed by the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee that the Frenchman is represented by a familiar figure, Will Salthouse, who also has the likes of Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Craig Dawson and Ryan Fredericks on his books.

Squad depth option

Now that the season is done and dusted, and the unthinkable has been achieved, it’s time for David Moyes and the club’s hierarchy to move on with plans ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 58-year-old has transformed the East Londoners from firm relegation candidates to sealing a place in Europe in the space of just one year.

However, if the Irons go into battle next season as they are, they could well struggle due to the lack of rotation options at Moyes’ disposal.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-and-the-latest-gossip” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and more!”]

For instance, the Scotsman is just one injury to Michail Antonio away from not having a senior striker and this is a similar case right across the squad, with the Hammers lacking depth in midfield and in defence.

If Ntcham is available for nothing, then it could be a very shrewd decision to swoop for him, especially given his ties to a reliable figure in Salthouse.

Things have not gone to plan for the Bhoys midfielder at Marseille, where he has averaged an abysmal rating of 6.13, whilst L’Equipe rated one of his performances a brutal 3/10 back in March (via The Sun).

But, truth be told, his stint at the Stade Velodrome was hampered from the minute he walked through the door as then-manager Andre Villas-Boas resigned because he did not want the player.

It wasn’t too long ago that Ntcham was being touted as a £7m target for Premier League teams, whilst current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has always been a fan of his, having described him as a “terrific talent” in 2018.

Even Neil Lennon lauded him as “one hell of a player” during his time in charge of the Glasgow giants, so to get him for nothing would be a steal.

Another body in midfield is certainly needed this summer as next season will be Mark Noble’s final campaign in the claret and blue, with Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice the only other two out-and-out central options available to Moyes.

Ntcham won’t be expected to pull up many trees but is surely a worthwhile candidate to consider. He’s set to be available for nothing and Salthouse could well do GSB a major favour.

AND in other news, Moyes could secure his own Vardy with a West Ham swoop for “crazy” £27m-rated talisman…

Dharmani, Yuvraj help Punjab gain early advantage

In the absence of Ajit Agarkar, Sairaj Bahutule and Nilesh Kulkarni,Punjab took advantage of the depleted Mumbai attack to post 244 forfour at stumps on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinalmatch at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. Punjab stumperPankaj Dharmani (68) and Indian one day batsman Yuvraj Singh heldcentre stage as Mumbai were made to toil all day.Mumbai’s stand in skipper Amol Mazumdar won the toss and opted to putthe opposition in. Punjab openers Vikram Rathour (14) and RavneetRicky (24) put up 32 runs on the board in 8.4 overs. But theexperience of Paras Mhambrey prevailed and Rathour was bowled. AnkurKakkar, playing just his second Ranji match, made his way to thecrease. But just when a good partnership was developing between Kakkarand Ricky, left arm spinner Rajesh Powar trapped the Punjab opener legbefore with the score at 58 in the 26th over.Dharmani joined Kakkar and forged a sedate 78-run partnership for thethird wicket on either side of the lunch break. Kakkar was unfortunateto miss out on his second half century in as many matches and wasstumped by Amol Rane off Ramesh Powar in the 45th over. Kakkar (46)who was at the centre for 157 minutes faced 117 balls and fourboundaries while managing to send one over the ropes.Yuvraj Singh walked out to join Dharmani and before long took controlof the proceedings. The two added 100 runs for the fourth wicket in 26overs. The Mumbaikars sorely missed the experience of their front linebowlers on a day when the Punjab middle order was toying with theattack. During the course of the partnership, Dharmani reached hishalf-century, needing 97 balls to reach the mark. After toiling allthrough the afternoon, Mumbai were finally rewarded with the wicket ofDharmani. Mhambrey, who came back into the attack, trapped Dharmanileg before in the 72nd over of the innings. During a 179-minute stayat the crease, Dharmani faced 130 balls and hit eight fours and a sixin his 68.Punjab, who have been in such ominous form this season – they won alltheir five league games – were now helped along by Yuvraj Singh andReetinder Sodhi (35 not out). Yuvraj Singh reached his fifty in duecourse, requiring just 73 balls. The two who have put on 63 runs forthe fifth wicket so far ensured that Punjab suffered no furthercasualities. By close, Yuvraj was unbeaten on 86 (131 balls, 11 fours, one six).

Leeds in talks with City over Harrison

Talks are underway between Leeds and Manchester City over the permanent signing of winger Jack Harrison.

That’s according to Jeremy Cross, the Daily Star’s Chief Sports Writer.

The lowdown

Harrison has spent the last three seasons on loan at Leeds, who contractually have the first option to buy.

The 24-year-old has made 35 appearances in their first season back in the top flight. With a game still to play, he’s on a commendable tally of eight goals and eight assists.

No English midfielder has been directly involved in more goals in the Premier League this season.

Harrison starred in the 4-0 win at Burnley last weekend, scoring Leeds’ second goal before teeing-up a late brace for substitute Rodrigo.

BT Sport pundit Peter Crouch said Harrison had had a ‘fantastic’ season and had ‘to be in with a shout’ of featuring in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, while Chris Coleman reckons he would be a ‘joy to play with’ if you were a full-back.

The latest

According to Cross, Bielsa is said to be ‘desperate’ to keep Harrison and Leeds are looking to tie him down.

Cross reports that a £15million fee has already been agreed between the two parties with talks now officially underway to secure Harrison’s future in Yorkshire.

The verdict

Rightly, this looks to be Leeds’ first priority: secure Harrison’s future and then focus on the areas that need upgrading.

The Englishman has gone from strength to strength this season and at only 24, could make a huge contribution going forward.

£15million could be regarded as a snip for a player ranked as the club’s sixth-best performer this term.

Agora vou me recuperar bem e seguir as recomendações dos médicos.
