Early blow for Matos: "Top clubs" now moving to sign Swansea's best young star

In an instant blow for new manager Vitor Matos, “top clubs” are now reportedly making moves in an attempt to sign Swansea City’s Harlan Perry, who has been the academy’s Player of the Year for four consecutive seasons.

It’s the last thing that Matos needs, with the pressure on to arrive and turn things around in Wales. As things stand, the Jacks sit 20th and only four points above the Championship’s dropzone with the manager’s debut against Derby County up next.

Upon arriving, the former Liverpool coach shared how optimistic he is that Swansea can turn their season around – telling the club’s website: “Swansea, for me, have always had a style. Something that distinguished the club from all the others.

“Somehow we have got a bit far away from what is the DNA of the club. So it will take steps, it will take a bit of time, but I really believe we can take steps in the right direction.

“For that, we will need everyone, the whole club, all the fans and us all to have the same vision. That’s what I want. I see the fans are still behind and pushing the team, we will need them and I see players who want to change the momentum and we need to find the right idea and the right vision to do it.

“That’s the most important thing. It is clear we need to win games and points, but we need to focus on the process and I really believe if we can play to our best then the more chances we will have to win. That’s the direction we need to have.”

It’s a DNA built from the first-team to the academy, but one that Swansea’s best young player may yet miss as contract concerns continue to emerge.

"Top clubs" now moving to sign Harlan Perry

As reported by Rudy Galetti, “top clubs” are now moving to sign Perry from Swansea in what would be a free deal. The 17-year-old has been the academy’s Player of the Year in the last four seasons, but is yet to sign a professional contract – opening the door for a potential exit.

A major boost for the Swans.

ByTom Cunningham Nov 20, 2025

The midfielder turns 18 this week – it’s then that clubs will be able to offer him a long-term contract to deal those in Wales a major blow.

Whilst Matos’ first priority should of course be turning results around, he must also ensure that Swansea keep hold of players with impressive potential like Perry, even if it means selling for a larger profit at a later date.

Rafael Devers Makes Unfortunate MLB History With Brutal Start to Red Sox Season

The 2025 MLB season is only a few games old, but it has not been kind to slugging Boston Red Sox DH Rafael Devers.

Devers is coming off a strangely controversial spring training in which he seemed to publicly go back and forth with manager Alex Cora about whether or not he'd play third base. Ahead of Opening Day Cora declared officially that Devers would be the team's full-time designated hitter going forward. Whether it's the change or the weird vibes surrounding it, Devers has struggled mightily to adjust. To a historic degree, as a matter of fact.

In the first three games of the Red Sox's season, Devers has had 12 at-bats. He has recorded zero hits in those at-bats. Worse, he's struck out 10 times. And with his 10th strikeout on Saturday in Boston's loss to the Texas Rangers, Devers became the first player in MLB history to strike out 10 times in the first three games of the year, per ESPN.

Baseball players go through slumps all the time. This isn't to say the Red Sox should start ringing alarm bells. But as far as slumps go, this one is . Devers can't even get wood on the ball right now, a shocking sight given he had 28 home runs and knocked in 83 RBI in 2024.

Not exactly what the Red Sox are looking for from their $300 milion hitter, that's for sure.

Adam Lallana wants Southampton manager job after learning under Roberto De Zerbi

Adam Lallana would be “interested” in becoming the next manager of Southampton.

Since winning the 2024 Championship play-off final, it has hardly been the future that Southampton would have anticipated. Russell Martin, who guided them back to the Premier League, was replaced by Ivan Juric mid-season, following a turgid start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Juric was unable to turn around Southampton’s misfortune, as they became the first club to be relegated from the English top flight with as many as seven games remaining.

Will Still, who made a reputation for himself with Reims and Lens, joined in the summer. Despite his promise and an influx of summer signings, though, Still also struggled for form. After just two Championship wins in 13 matches and a three-game losing streak, Southampton parted ways with Still and have since been on the hunt for a new manager.

Now, it would appear that an unlikely candidate would happily take on the role were he offered the job.

Lallana to replace Still?

Following the 2024/25 season, Adam Lallana called time on his 19-year playing career. The midfielder, who came through the ranks at Southampton, played for the Saints for eight years until joining Liverpool in 2014. Six years later, Lallana moved to Brighton before returning to St. Mary’s, for a single season, in 2024.

As per Sky Sports, Lallana, who currently works as a first-team coach with the Saints, would be “interested in becoming a head coach”.

Across his playing career, Lallana played with some incredible managers, including Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton. Lallana has been outspoken about his “love” for De Zerbi, who now manages Ligue 1 side Marseille. No doubt then that he would look to draw from the Italian for inspiration in his own coaching career.

Despite his enthusiasm however, it appears that he is “an unlikely option at this time, given his lack of experience in the role”.

Southampton are aiming for a swift return to the English top flight, though their start to the 2025/26 season suggests that they may fall short of the mark they were aiming for.

Lallana could, no doubt, start his career as a first-team head coach in the coming years. With Southampton, however, it could well be too much, too soon for the former midfielder. He would be inheriting a club that desperately need lifting from the slump they find themselves in and a more-experienced option may better benefit the Saints at this time.

Liverpool "very very" interested in Bayern star; €100m would force sale discussions

In a move that could see them land their Salah replacement, Liverpool are now reportedly “very very” interested in a deal to sign a Champions League star and now know that a big offer would force negotiations.

Wirtz reveals Slot conversation after slow start

On the topic of big-money signings, it’s not always that they get off to a rapid start as Liverpool are now finding out in the case of Florian Wirtz. The £116m midfielder is yet to show his best form for the Reds and felt the full effect of the quality that Arne Slot has to choose from when he was benched for Alexis Mac Allister in the Merseyside derby.

Since then, he has admitted that a conversation has been held with the Liverpool boss in an attempt to find his feet at Anfield. The German told reporters: “It could be that I’m trying to pass the ball faster. I recently talked to the coach about it, and he suggested why I might not be able to get into the situations I normally get into. That is, I’m making the game fast with a dribble or a pass.

“He said it could be because we press a lot, and I run a lot. For example, the running stats. I’m always at the top there because I try to push hard and do what the coach asks.

Not Isak or Ekitike: Liverpool struck gold on star worth more than Salah

This unsung Liverpool hero continues to prove a fantastic signing for the club.

ByAngus Sinclair Sep 26, 2025

“I need a lot of strength and energy for that. When I have the ball, I might be lacking a little bit. That it will simply come step by step, as I play more games, get fitter, be able to do things more easily, and then, when I have the ball, be fit enough and recovered enough to push hard.”

That said, Liverpool will be well aware of the talent that they’ve got on their hands. In a new era, they’ve planned for the future and already have another impressive attacker in mind as a result.

Liverpool "very very" interested in Olise

As reported by BILD’s Christian Falk, Liverpool are “very very” interested in signing Michael Olise and FSG now know that a €100m (£87m) would be enough to force negotiations with Bayern Munich.

Given that Mohamed Salah is now 33 years old and into the first of two more years at Anfield after signing a new contract last season, Liverpool’s interest in Olise should come as no surprise.

The former Crystal Palace winger should be at the top of their list to replace Salah when the time comes, having watched on as he’s become the star of the show at Bayern – scoring four goals and assisting another four in eight games this season.

Tottenham Hotspur are now racing Arsenal for the signature of a £130m+ attacker, who’s been described as a “true icon in the making”.

Tottenham eyeing new attacking midfielder amid Simons' slow start

It is still very early days, but Xavi Simons hasn’t exactly set the world alight since his arrival from RB Leipzig, most recently failing to create any big chances and completing just one of the four dribbles he attempted in the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In fairness, the Dutchman is arguably being deployed out of position, having predominantly been given the nod at left-wing by Thomas Frank up to this point, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes the 22-year-old will be a success in north London long-term.

Tottenham now expected to submit £25m+ offer for "special" Brazilian forward

Spurs are poised to submit an opening bid for a new forward, who’s been dubbed a “quality finisher”.

The former striker said: “Simons has only just started, but I like Simons. I really like him. I think he’s going to be a big, big, big success at Spurs. He can play on the left or as a No. 10, but he’s also not scared, and that’s why I like him.”

Lucas Bergvall started in the number 10 role against Wolves, but given that the Sweden international is only 19-years-old, it would make sense to bring in another attacking midfielder.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Tottenham have now joined the race for Real Madrid star Arda Guler, having sent scouts to watch the youngster in action, but there could be competition for his signature, with a number of other big clubs also keen.

Arsenal, Newcastle United, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also named as potential suitors for the attacking midfielder, but any of the interested parties may have to shell out a huge fee to get a deal done, with it previously being revealed he is valued at over £130m.

The report makes it clear that Madrid are reluctant to sanction a departure, given that Guler has emerged as a crucial player since the arrival of Xabi Alonso.

Guler living up to his potential at Real Madrid

After impressing at international level in the summer, scoring against the USA and Hungary, scout Jacek Kulig suggested the Turk could go on to be a future star.

Since then, the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength, picking up three goals and three assists in his opening seven La Liga games, with the starlet establishing himself as a key player for Real Madrid.

Having also been lauded as a “special talent” by scout Ben Mattinson, Guler could be a fantastic signing for Tottenham, but it seems very unlikely that a deal will be possible, given his astronomical price tag.

Next Isidor: Sunderland seriously considering move for £17m "goal machine"

Both Sunderland and Leeds United have started their respective Premier League campaigns with confidence-boosting wins after tasting the sweet glory of promotion last season.

Leeds just about got over the line in the end in a 1-0 triumph over Everton, while Regis Le Bris’ Black Cats stormed to a mightily impressive 3-0 victory over a dejected West Ham United side who rolled over in the second half to gift the hosts a comfortable three points.

Up next, Sunderland travel to the only promoted outfit that didn’t pick up maximum points on the opening weekend in Burnley, ready to apply more salt to the Clarets’ wound on the road.

More new signings in through the door also look to be horizon at the Stadium of Light, as the positive mood on Wearside shows no signs of letting up.

Sunderland consider £17m swoop for striker

Despite such a rampant offering against the Hammers, Sunderland looks to be in the market again for some fresh attackers.

Reports suggest that a huge £27m bid has been lodged by Le Bris and Co. for the services of Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu, with a deal perhaps too expensive for Sunderland to finalise, owing to their rapid spending all summer long.

£17m could also soon be splashed on Ajax centre-forward Brian Brobbey, if other reports are to be believed.

As per Dutch outfit Algemeen Dagblad, it is being alleged that Sunderland are seriously considering a move for the homegrown Amsterdam attacker, who has been told he can depart his boyhood club to try and find a change of scenery.

That has alerted Stade Rennes, Stuttgart, and AS Roma, with Sunderland also in the mix.

Sealing a £17m deal for Brobbery to join the building might well see Sunderland try to replicate the success story of their Wilson Isidor deal, as another exciting – if slightly unknown to the average Black Cats supporter – attacker braces himself for a big move to English soil.

Why Brobbey can be the next Isidor

It’s fair to say the gamble to bring Isidor to Wearside has now more than paid off, with his stylish curled finish wrongfooting Mads Hermansen to seal a 3-0 win on the opening day.

Of course, he has other moments of quality in his back pocket, too, at the Stadium of Light, as the goal-hungry Frenchman helped himself to 13 strikes last season as Sunderland won that ecstatic promotion back up to the big time.

Isidor’s move has now gone down as a left-field switch that has worked perfectly for all involved, considering the 24-year-old initially arrived at Le Bris’ camp on loan as a relative unknown entity from Zenit St. Petersburg.

With only four goals next to his name from 26 appearances for the Russian titans, there would have been a lot of anxiety in the air surrounding him flopping.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, with Brobbey now attempting to follow in Isidor’s footsteps, after he experienced a shoddy 2024/25 campaign himself in the Eredivisie.

Only four of Brobbey’s seven strikes last season would come in Dutch top-flight action, which is a notable drop-off when contrasted with his blistering exploits during the 2023/24 season, where a mammoth 21 goals and 11 assists would come his way from 43 contests.

The eight-time Netherlands international could well get back to his goalscoring best under Le Bris’ wing, knowing that Isidor has been transformed into a Premier League-capable attacker under the ex-Lorient boss’ tutelage.

Moreover, when the “prolific” attacker is purring – as he has been labelled previously by scout Jacek Kulig – he is a force to be reckoned with, as seen when powering home this thumping one-time finish against Heracles Almelo, which is reminiscent of Isidor’s split-second displays of quality in front of goal.

Further lauded as a “goal machine” by Kulig, this feels as if it could be a golden purchase if all goes to plan, as Sunderland attempts to scare more top-flight defences stiff with the addition of another clinical finisher.
